What did he steal from Ice T?

And what was the hottest line bit from Bun B?

Dude even took the famous hook, "If you having girl problems i feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't 1" but everybody now seems to think Jay-Z created that saying.

Btw this joint came out in 1993.

to me the song lost some luster when I found out he stole that hook from ice T. yet it's still a classic and one of my fav. jay songs

I don't think 'steal' is an appropriate word...he USED Ice T's chorus...You're all goin' on like Jay took the 99 problems thing from some underground nigga who no one's ever heard of

It's an original track because of the Rubin collaboration that really gave him something different to go for...

He was able to headline Glastonbury in England, the biggest Summer Festival there most likely because of this song.

It's a crossover classic in some regards, the story telling is up there, but it's not a personal favourite.

There are more hidden classics in Jay's catalog that deserve the 'classic track' status over this one... but it had an effect on Jay's future more so than any other track on that record.

Jay Z's flow is what made me start liking this song. at first i didnt like the beat but i sat down and listened to the song on xmas day 2003 and was quite entertained by Jay Z ripping this beat to shreds. his flow was agressive, cocky and direct like that vol 1 shit. lots of witty 1 liners and multis on the song. the video was on point too. the chorus is catchy. its a classic

ok who tha fuck hacked tomp's account?

Agreed. Personally I think "Coming of Age II", "Meet the Parents", and "Just A Week Ago" were better story telling songs from him.

the Bun B line was:"once upon a time not too long ago/ a nigga like myself had to strong-arm a hoe/this was not a hoe in the sense of having a pussy, but a pussy havin no goddamn sense"

I agree the song loses it's edge when you find out Jay-Z "borrowed it" from 2 greats,in fact when you find out how much Jay bites it kinda makes you respect his pen game less

because its not...Lyrically its ok but that annoying beat is all over the place,That white boi rubin ain't got no soul in his productions..Euro Jay's beat selection is sometimes suspect..See "Ham"...Jay's realest work was at the beginning of his career before that devilish ass industry turned his music out
