like Mayweather said UFC isn't really skill required like boxing is,don't get me wrong those guys are talented but anybody can lift weights and fuck people up.

Good thread. I think it's because those boxers have more rivalries/epic battles (except Tyson but he's just too entertaining to not watch). I don't follow UFC as closely, so I'm not sure but I don't see the same rivalries there. But I think most people like boxing more (as a sport, even if they don't like the current boxers out), because the most exciting thing in a fight is a KO.

The best MMA fights are ones that are stand-up fights, which is a lot of the reason why Chuck Lidell was so popular. Grappling is holding MMA back, but they can't get rid of it.

Anderson Silva will go down as the equivallent to those dudes you name, guys like BJ Penn, George St. Pierre too. Plus lol at no legends, atleast learn the history of the sport before yall talk out you ignorant ass; the Gracie family are legends in the sport. I think MMA is still young and the sport is in the growing phase right now, i think you're gonna see the smaller organizations get absorded by UFC and bring in their best talent.

lol at UFC having no skill, fucking retarded ass logic. How can you say someone who has a background in boxing, wrestling, jiu jitsu, kickboxing, etc is not skilled. You know you dudes would not step to one of these dudes, i've been to the American Fighter training facility in Coral Springs Florida and trust me when i say they are skilled.

I don't think you're getting what the threadstarter's asking. The people he named are known to everyone. The Gracie family is legendary, but within the MMA world. They aren't a household name like De La Hoya, Tyson, Ali, Mayweather, Foreman, etc. The dudes you named are great fighters, but not a household name. Think he was wondering why the UFC hasn't put out fighters that are that popular to people outside MMA fans.

None of those people are legends.

That's exactly whats happening. The reason why there hasn't been a Tyson/Ali kind of fighter because there's always another fighter that comes out of nowhere to make noise. There are literally too many contenders in UFC. Of course you got your top guys like Anderson Silva, Penn and St. Pierre that seem unstoppable right now but those dudes can get knocked out at any day and time. Look at what Brock Lesnar did .... honestly the closest thing UFC has to a legend like Tyson or Ali is probably Anderson Silva. I wish him and St. Pierre was in the same weight class though because honestly at this time that's the only fighter that has the talent to keep up with him and probably pull out a win.

I see nobody is listening so let me repeat myself: Fedor Emelianenko

I am not even a UFC/MMA fan but I know this guy is a beast. Waiting for Dana White to get Fedor and Brock to fight.

You're naming a great fighter, and despite all he's done he's not a household name. Most of America doesn't know who he is. It's like naming a great olympian. They may be great, but most people outside real fans of their sport don't know who they are. He's not sayin UFC doesn't have talented fighters...just that they haven't put out legends on the level of the boxers named.

Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn, Randy Couture, Wandy Silva, Anderson Silva once he retires, BJ Penn and if they get it correct Lyoto Machica, GSP & Shogun can all become legends

I hate when losers like you get the pussy eyes for no reason and then got the nerve to not make any damn sense in the process. You ask the average person in the street who the Gracies are and they dont fucking know and dont care. You ask them who Oscar De La Hoya is...they know. A LEGEND is somebody EVERYBODY knows. And The Gracie family were the ones who started it but they left WAY early so that dont count they have their own shit going.

You one of those sports nerds that know EVERYTHING about the most unknown nigga including his shoe & dick size and you dont realize that not everybody is a loser ass nigga and pays attention to the 8th man on the 76ers bench and shit. Regular people know who ALI is you the type to know who his sparring partners are then try to clown niggas that dont like its normal to be knowing a muthafukkas Social Security number and shit. Save the insults nigga I was asking the question from a regular sports viewers perceptive not some bumass nigga that got UFC action figures and shit. Chill the fuck out.

I'm more of a boxing fan myself, but T/S you gotta understand that the UFC hasn't been around as long as boxing has. Now if you ask a MMA fan who the Gracies are, you'll have no problem getting the answers. The Gracies are probably the most heralded fighting family in MMA history.

Look how long it took for boxing to get their Ali's, De La Hoya and even Sugar Ray Leonard's. It went through decades and decades of fighters to do so. As of now, I agree DLH is more known than Fedor or any Gracie family member, but give the UFC/MMA some time to grow and see how it goes from there

Boxing has been around way longer than all those boxers you name, they are standing on the shoulders of Jack Johnson and other guys who came before them; the artform has been around since 1743. MMA on the other hand has been on the scene for less than 20 years; i hope you dudes don't think that's long enough to establish a legacy. Boxing is a more presentable sport than MMA right now to, it's a general thing in where old people aren't on to it and the younger generation is loving it. Give it 10 more years and MMA will be completely accepted on the mainstream level, and lets not act like Mayweather or Pachio is on Lebron or Tiger Woods level. Boxing on a whole it's on it's death bed

Well as I have both boxed Amature and fought MMA semi-pro...the problem with MMA is...quite frankly...they beat each other up too much...meaning...u have guys like Anderson Silva who's considered the best in the game with 4 Losses...Boxing is very much like college football...u lose and ur out... so ur building up ur legacy on ur way to the top...meanwhile u got guys like Brock Lesnar who gets a title shot with a record of 2-1...youll never see shit like that in boxing...Tyson as devestating as he was 28-0 with like 1000000 KOs before he got his shot to be a legend in bxing it seems like u have to earn ur keep in MMA its really whoever they want to push atm..."Brock Lensar,ANderson Silva,BJ Penn)...Ive been rolled up by BJ Penn and trained with Fast Hands Eddie Alvarez...great fighters not legendary...also...MMAs belts change hands way too much again they push who they want to push...I also heard a guy mention the Gracies....they didnt invent MMA the sport or style...the sport has been around forever(from the greek pankration or the exhitions between wrestlers and boxers even Helio Gracie(BJJ) fighting Masahiko Kimura(Judo) and yes thats where the move the Kimura got its name..btw he destroyed Gracie ...and their style is BJJ not MMA...just thought i'd say that...but my point is the reason that MMA hasnt produced any true legends is because they wont let any become legends they keep trying to make them and the official sport is really young

Well for one it's only been around for less than 20 years and two it really didn't get any mainstream love until the Chuck Liddell lovefest that started around 2005 and the epic Ultimate Fighter 1 Finale when everybody and their mother had the Chuck Liddell Affliction shirt.
