Hip hop is only about 40 years old, give or take. The sound has just evolved so quickly, everything beyond ten years ago seems ancient. That's why 90's rock music is called 90's rock, and 90's rap is called old school. It's the same with every genre of music, hip hop is just the latest to emerge. The first rock musicians sound lame and dated now too, its just that rock's been around since the 40's and most people have forgotten the names by now. T-Bone, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, etc.

the rap market has a short attention. I was listening to the radio the other day and they do a BACK IN THE DAY old school jam throwback thing and they played ITS GOIN DOWN by Young Joc.. im late WAIT... that was 2006 just 5 years ago?? are you fuckin serious!!
