There were but they were perceived as jokes or novelty acts. rappers like mc hammer, vanilla ice, marky mark, tag team, quad city dj's were mostly novelty acts and weren't taken serious. gucci mane is treated as a serious artist, so was lil jon etc.

yea, gucci mane and lil jon are treated as serious entities, but so is asap rocky and jim jones tho, just cuz gucci mane isnt the conventional lyricist, doesnt make him wack and just cuz asap rocky is from another region doesnt mean he's above avg.

And the whole "Formatted Album" came from Biggie with Ready to die where its standard to have a Party Track, Chick Song, Street Song, Anthem type song.
