Either you like it or you don't That's like putting food on your plate, tearing that shit up until the plate spotless and then saying, "That shit was nasty". Jamaica quit making excuses for why that new Shawty Lo is on your ipod dude

I think there is enough room in the game for every type of rap music,

from lyrical mcing, trap music, the shit Chief Keef does,

to the pop shit Drake does..

I enjoy all of that shit..

now im not gonna lie, I support the more lyrical rappers..

cause thats the type of shit I prefer to listen to,

especially while driving around hustling or in the gym working out..

but if Im in a club, bar, or lounge and the dj play some club shit,

and the women start gettin hyped,

of course Im gonna enjoy that shit for the moment..

cant call it wack just cause you dont like it..

Yes you can call something Whack that you don't like. If, not then you cannot call something Fly or dope because you like it.

That's the problem with those words. All they mean is "I dont like it" or "I like it". They don't say anything meaningful about the music or the artist.

Which, is fine. The problem comes in when that person has to actually say something meaningful.

It bumps in the whip

The nigga getting paper

The nigga got swag

These aren't exactly saying anything about the Music or the artist either.

Not every wack southern rapper gets support though. They have a lot of flavors of the month down there, because someone gets lucky and makes a song that gets people moving in the clubs.. but then they disappear into obscurity again (DJ Unk, D4L, GS Boyz, Soulja Boy, Hurricane Chris, Dem Franchize Boys, Huey etc). It is only a select few like Waka and Gucci that see consistent support from their fan base... and people have to realize a lot of that support comes from outside the south too - I know white dudes in Canada that love that shit. We can't put the blame for their longevity entirely on southern audiences.

true

lol @ getting paper. When people say that I just laugh - it's like they're just using the artist's popularity to explain their music tastes.

I could never really get into Outkast music but I would never call them wack..

Yall have way too much time to overthink this. People all over not just the South, like the way certain songs sound, make them feel, move (remember women are main consumers too). The same thing music has been. Honest answer to thread title.

Yes it is.

People attach their emotions to what they like

Like my homie Fiat said 1000 years of darkness

Semantics FAM. Both would be saying the same thing. Whack is just interpreted as being more harsh. I don't have a problem if someone thinks Kast is whack. I mean 3000 has done some really Whack shit. So has Ceelo. But when it comes to rhyming they are two of the best and could never be classified as Whack. But Gucci, Waka come on. Them dudes is 360 degree whack.

Having a few wack songs is a hella lot different than being a wack artist. Has Andre over the course of twenty years in the game put out some some wack songs, hella yes, that doesn't mean he isn't one of the GOATs, on the flipside is it possible that Gucci Mane will make a few songs that niggas will like, yes, the same with Andre, those handful of good songs doesn't demise the fact that lyrically dude is garbage.

I liked that lookin boy song back in 08. I thought it was wack but enjoyed it at the same time.

I actually ran into this explanation of the differences between Southern and East hip hop the other day, these aint my ideas but its a good way to look at it for Southern posters

"South = More Musically inclined/involved than Northern music, goes for jammin songs, dance music as well

North = More Lyric driven, less musically inclined, goes for shock and grittiness"

The real question is why is Southern Hip Hop more diverse than east coast Hip Hop? Its like 1200 sub-genres of Southern Hip Hop.

South more musically inclined which explains why we invented every other form of African American music

North less musically inclined which would explain why Whiteskins gravitate towards it, no rhythm, and you know they wanna romanticize about the "shocking and gritty" realities of the "ghetto" that east coast rappers talk about
