B/c he tried. Failed. And then got on some "fuck going commercial" shit. Nigga, you wasn't sayin' that when you were writing "hate me now". I think that's wack as fuck. I just find nas to be very inauthentic.

Certain rappers get put inside of a box. The backlash that Nas gets for doing those types of songs is the result of fans and critics trying to put him in a box. It's basically, "this is the guy that made Illmatic", and he's "Hip Hop's savior", how dare he stoop so low for mainstream acceptance. He was criticized for taking a more mainstream approach w/ It Was Written, The Firm, I Am... and Nastradamus. Stillmatic was praised as his return to form and even more so God's Son. Both albums were less commercial and Nas kind of strayed away from anything reminiscent of anything commercial. As a result, he became anti-mainstream musically. Now the criticism is his beats.

Because the purist forced that real hiphop/underground hiphop title on him. You know people try to box artist in and think they should stick to a sound they feel is right.

I personally feel IWW is his best album, i like You owe me, You won't see me tonight, and some other commercial attempts. Not saying all are good or anything!

Some of his commercials songs (well, singles I guess) are alright, "I Can" for example is a good one. Yeah, it's not a "hard" song by any means but it does have a good message and the rapping is good.

How so? If you're talking about him bashing commercialism, it was after the backlash from fans and critics that he took that route.

Fans and critics say that Nas should be Jay Z status, forgetting that when Nas was double platinum, he was considered a sellout. If anything critics and fans put Nas in a box. Nas always came with something different. Some of it was embraced, and some of it was hated.

i luv nas but i only listen to nas for his real life poetic conscious black music ish

when he gets all pop commercial it just comes off as awkward

when nas does a song like made u look and it crosses over to the clubs i fucks with that als same with if i ruled the world

like dem songs were for the hood and the black folk, but they crossed over to the clubs and shit,

nas dont gotta be like jayz who makes wack ass cornball singles talkin about sellin crack in 88, rippin off biggy lyrics,

while nas rappin with damian marley that cornball uncle tom hov wanna make music with white pop stars
