The Midwest has allways been a gumbo of influences. Its really all Southern influence by default because of post-slavery migration.

Thats why the Chronic is the goat album to me, that album influenced alot of artists. Outkast,Da Brat,Biggie, etc, alot of cats either jacked the GFunk sound or modelled their albums after the Chronic. Bone was definelty rapping on west coast beats and dressed west coast

Dolemite, James Brown and George Clinton fathered all them niggas, so any thesis of who started what gotta go back further than the Chronic.

We all know that, but Dre clearly put that sound on the map and everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

In the realm of hip-hop, Digital Underground did it first.

They were signed by a west-coast pioneer, to a west-coast record label, worked with west-coast producers, and debuted at the height of west-coast influence in Hip Hop.

Who else would they sound like?

he was born in nj http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_hip_hop look up jersey rappers

Where you are born is not where you are from it's where you grew up and lived for example Scarface could have been born in Jersey moved to Houston when he was 10 years old then spent the rest of his life in Houston

Just like 2pac is from Oakland cos he moved there when he was 17

Being born somewhere is irrelevant it's about where you lived
