You all can say what you want but NYC is the Mecca of Hip Hop. We are the Africa of Hip Hop, it's birthplace. It comes from here, it's bloodline begins here. Yes it expanded all over the country and eventually the world, but NYC will forever be hip Hop's birthplace. Now yes in NYC we are very critical of other Hip Hop regions. That's no secret, but for the most part, if it's hot, NYC will embraced it. New Yorkers like N.W.A. and Dr. Dre and Snoop. As for the South, New Yorkers just felt there weren't many lyricist down there with the exception of Face and Kast.

So NY was very critical of the south, espeically in the last 5 years when the South took over mostly. But again, I'm not saying it's right for NYC to be overly critrical, but again it's the birthplace. NY has some say in the overall aspect of Hip Hop in the world and NY"s opinion is important. NYC has produced the greatest rappers ever for 1 region. The Top 10 NYC Rappers are mostly likely ranked higher than the top 10, Midwest, South or Westcoast Rappers. Why? cause again it's the birthplace. I got love for all regions and I'm an Eastcoast fan born and raised. To me, music is music and if it's a hot album, no matter what region it's from, I will bump it. But don't be upset cause NY is going to have high standards when it comes to Hip Hop cause they birthed it.

Too bad NY Rap and Hip-Hop pretty much died and lost respect after they lost biggie, big l and especially big pun, pun was respected by not only NY Rappers, but the entire U.S. Rap as a whole.

Hate comes from both ends of the spectrum. Me personally I like what I like east, west, south, midwest, outta the country whatever but don't act the hate that some Up top niggas spew is the only hate going around.

J. Cole for example only people that seem against him is from the south. I have yet to see a EASTCOAST poster hate on him. Why is that?

I've seen it all he isn't southern enough....He don't rap about shit i could relate to?? Really? Him and Krit are very similar in content only diff is Krit sounds southern hence he gets love from ya'll...I even know a cat i go to school say " He moved to NY to get a buzz, I don't fuck with him" Is it really that serious?

And thats ya'll hating ya'll own..

The bolded is so fuckin' true...Me personally, I don't give a damn what part of the U.S. map he's from..if he/she can spit, shows versatility and have a great ear for beats, I'm checking on 'em...plus it's wack niggas in every corner of the state.

Funny how Rick Ross is the South's savior now. Considering that NY had the fat black nigga already. One who actually rap, that is...Who Ross manager again??

Jay Z signing Jay Electronica shows that he's lookin to promote good rap regardless of where it comes from. and Diddy wanted to sign him too. I agree that they should do more to promote good rap from the east though. 50 is not doing anything positive in hip hop right now.

there is truth to this. I honestly see more people complaining about eastcoast hating then I see eastcoast hating. like theyre overly defensive, or insecure as you say

ah I Don't think so, because NY Rappers aren't very sincere.

Haven't really heard anybody down here hate on J. Cole like that...the bitches love him and the dudes acknowledge that he's a different sound so all that "hate on J. Cole" is new to me..

co-sign but i perosnally know people from the east and the south that automatically write off the other coast music as wack...Trust the hate is strong on both ends...This thread sums it up. .

The people that I have met from the east are some of the sharpest individuals I have ever encountered.

The peeps I know from New York view HipHop as a culture and not just "rap-music" that can serve as a conduit for you to wash drug-money or a get-rich-quick scheme.

If I loved HipHop as much as NY does Id be protective of her too, they are not responsible for Vanilla Ice, Porn-rap, or banger-rap.

NY didnt pioneer horrorcore.

Michael Jordan has earned the right to criticize Lebron James and Spike Lee has earned the right to criticize Tyler Perry....NY gave birth to a culture and the whole world is disrespecting it and raping it and they have earned the right to be critical.

all the eastcoast has got is to old ass rappers jay and nas

eastcoast been irrelevant since forever, thats why they boo south rappers off the stage

we know where hip hop was birthed, thats col, but ur music scene is trash my niggas, up ur game, this aint the 90's no more, u cant rely on old niggas to hold u down forever

the westcoat got better young rappers than yall

the south got better young rappers than yall

The east coast really started to get irrelevant and go downhill when those 3 rappers died (Biggie, Big L & Big Pun).

Considering artists like J. Cole coming from a Southern state and sound "East Coast" he's gonna get hated on...Jay Electronica fits in that same category as well.

I'm sorry but why do I need you?? Are you even employed to any of the financial institutions based in NY?? You just a part time rapper who thinks she's special because she lives in a major city that she contributes almost nothing to the greatness of. You just another nigga late paying her rent, you don't own anything up there so what makes YOU so special?

Damn..powerful post. That's the problem right there in the bolded. Everybody doesn't view it as a CULTURE.
