And you know what's funny? The thread wasn't even about MY collection agency woes. That was just something I chose to put out there to jumpstart the thread, which was more about people and their experience(s) with collection agencies. But I guess you'd actually have to read it to understand it.

Call a lawyer & have them handle the issue. The bad thing about something like this is that it can hurt ur credit & deteriorate it over time. My father had a similar issue over a bill he paid a week early just b4 he cancelled his phone service & again when he went to have my grandfather go for a surgery. Provide them with proof (which u already have) & ur lawyer should be able to put together a solid case that u arent liable for a mistake that was none of ur responsibility and out of ur grasp. If the insurance firm can also co-operate by showing that u WERE IN FACT effective (by providing documentation w/ correct dates) then u have nothing to worry about & this should be cleared in about 3 months. You could also sue in small claims court.
