Jay fell off harder if you ask me. I may have considered Eminem because he did fall off alot but homie put on a syllable clinic on that Rap God song. And Slims wordplay has always been wittier and had a better kick to it than Jay to me. We have to go all the way back to Reasonable dought to find alotta Jays stronger double meaning bars
Rap God >>>>>than anything this guy who cant even out spit Yeezus (who has also fell off hard so that's saying something)has come out with in the last 10 years...
lmfaoooooo
Is Rap God your definition of good wordplay and lyricism? No wonder you think Jay can't 'outspit' Kanye.
What the fuck is witty about 'and if I can't batter the women, how the fuck am I supposed to bake them a cake' ? The entire song is marred by half baked attempts at being witty....
Im talking about wordplay hes used over the years not just rapGod. Dont quote lines that I wasnt speaking on, you qupted the weakest one out the bunch for your point pshhhh get your jigga stan ass outta here. Have you even heard Jays last 3 albums? Atleast Em showed something that resembled some spits. For every punchline that Em do that miss Jay got like 3 or 4 dumb ones
MCHG is a good album. Blueprint 3 is solid. And American Gangster is a classic. What's your point? Recovery was AWFUL and FULL of middle school puns. Do you really need me to start quoting them? Em's weak wordplay/punchlines are NOT isolated, they're a salient part of his music (moreso on Recovery and the post Recovery features).
You're defending the guy who said 'stop with the scissors and cut the crap'...and 'fuck the world, feed it beans, it's gassed up'...'treat this roof like my daughter and raise it'...and this is off ONE fucking song. It wouldn't be so bad if the good lines outweighed the bad ones (let's face it, all rappers have some bad lines), but that's clearly not the case with Eminem.
The Recovery punchlines have always been my problem with Em (fuck him for making Not Afraid). But mind you this is something new he's experimenting with, so of course it's not gonna have the best results. But I'll say two things... one, at least he's willing to try new tricks, especially at his age and his status in the game. Two, I can at least say Em's strong suits are still there... flow, storytelling, multis. Like, So Far to me lyrically is just as good a song as Say Goodbye To Hollywood and The Way I Am, and they're all essentially the same song set 13 years apart.
I can't say the same for Jay. He's not wack by any means, but his strongest qualities have dropped significantly. His flow fell way off. The same man that made Jigga What, Big Pimpin and Is That Your Chick can't even keep his breath on a song like HAM. His wordplay fell off. When was the last time he said something as witty as "feed her money til the shit started to make sense/cents"? If that's Jay's bread and butter, and he doesn't use/have them anymore, what good is he? Plus the few new tricks he uses are just as bad as Em's punchlines. That breathy flow, the name dropping, and the "auh" shit... scust. The question is, who fell off more at rapping... and I'd rather add some new shit to my repertoire that may or may not work while retaining my original skill, than not use my shit at all.
