Is Rap God your definition of good wordplay and lyricism? No wonder you think Jay can't 'outspit' Kanye.

What the fuck is witty about 'and if I can't batter the women, how the fuck am I supposed to bake them a cake' ? The entire song is marred by half baked attempts at being witty....

Im talking about wordplay hes used over the years not just rapGod. Dont quote lines that I wasnt speaking on, you qupted the weakest one out the bunch for your point pshhhh get your jigga stan ass outta here. Have you even heard Jays last 3 albums? Atleast Em showed something that resembled some spits. For every punchline that Em do that miss Jay got like 3 or 4 dumb ones

MCHG is a good album. Blueprint 3 is solid. And American Gangster is a classic. What's your point? Recovery was AWFUL and FULL of middle school puns. Do you really need me to start quoting them? Em's weak wordplay/punchlines are NOT isolated, they're a salient part of his music (moreso on Recovery and the post Recovery features).

You're defending the guy who said 'stop with the scissors and cut the crap'...and 'fuck the world, feed it beans, it's gassed up'...'treat this roof like my daughter and raise it'...and this is off ONE fucking song. It wouldn't be so bad if the good lines outweighed the bad ones (let's face it, all rappers have some bad lines), but that's clearly not the case with Eminem.

The Recovery punchlines have always been my problem with Em (fuck him for making Not Afraid). But mind you this is something new he's experimenting with, so of course it's not gonna have the best results. But I'll say two things... one, at least he's willing to try new tricks, especially at his age and his status in the game. Two, I can at least say Em's strong suits are still there... flow, storytelling, multis. Like, So Far to me lyrically is just as good a song as Say Goodbye To Hollywood and The Way I Am, and they're all essentially the same song set 13 years apart.

I can't say the same for Jay. He's not wack by any means, but his strongest qualities have dropped significantly. His flow fell way off. The same man that made Jigga What, Big Pimpin and Is That Your Chick can't even keep his breath on a song like HAM. His wordplay fell off. When was the last time he said something as witty as "feed her money til the shit started to make sense/cents"? If that's Jay's bread and butter, and he doesn't use/have them anymore, what good is he? Plus the few new tricks he uses are just as bad as Em's punchlines. That breathy flow, the name dropping, and the "auh" shit... scust. The question is, who fell off more at rapping... and I'd rather add some new shit to my repertoire that may or may not work while retaining my original skill, than not use my shit at all.

Hey Lab, Im glad you was seein where i was getting at with the D Evils example. Great post pointing out the lack of breath control, the lame flows he uses now and everything. These guys that claim they his fans should be the first ones in this post pointing this shit out but instead, they in here acting sensitive and saying some dumb shit. I dont fuck with either guy as hard as i use to because just like Snoop DMX and all them other guys that came out in that time period, these to guys are not what they once were but You were right about the premise....the topic is who fell off more, not whos better overall. Idk maybe cats like Soprano and the Cool joe troll will listen to you tell it. Its not even that hard if people just use logical sence.

Em misses WAY more than Jay on punchlines, I don't even see how that's a debate.

When has Jay ever really been heavy on the punchlines?See this is what i mean about the reason. Niggas is fans to a fault. Eminem has much more been the wordplay, battle rap type than Jay ever thought about being.Fab got more punches than Jay.....that aint to say jay do or dont have the better music but just because he yall boy dont act like the nigga own every rap lane. I dont see how its debatable either but the other way around.

Nigga, your statement is even more idiotic now, Jay isn't heavy on punchlines, but he has 3 or 4 bad punchlines for every bad Em punchline? You damn near saying the nigga spits nothing but cringe worthy shit.

Em traded in content, slightly better lyricism and good sounding music in general in order to take flow to previously unheard of levels

Jayz gave up content/lyrics in order to ride Kanye's dick for continued relevancy

Jay Z is Lay Z

You really think so? Jay clearly doesn't have to continue making music. Meanwhile what else can Em do if not make albums or produce or whatever else.

Did you just say So Far is lyrically as good as Say Goodbye to Hollywood? You're talking about the song where he wastes the first verse talking about 'dropping a football' in a bathroom stall? Seriously? Like, this guy actually fucking said 'every time someone walks in the john I get madden'...So Far is an enjoyable record but there's no way you can say that song is lyrically great. That's objectively false.

Are you seriously suggesting that Jay hasn't said something witty since Reasonable Doubt? You either haven't been listening to his music or you're not listening properly. The Richard Prior line from Gotta Have It alone is better than any wordplay on MMLP2. Jay's double entendres/metaphors/similes/wordplay are still top notch...like, what gripes do you have with his verse on No Church? or Why I Love You? Or Illest Motherfucker Alive? I mean, MCHG isn't a great album, but to suggest Eminem's a superior lyricist when most of his new verses are marred with weak and corny lines is ridiculous.

I wasn't being objective about So Far, that's why I said "to me". People can think what they want. I just compared it to those other two songs cuz they all deal with the trappings of fame and lack of privacy, but Em deals with it with a sense of humor this time. I'm not gonna break down the entire verse (don't got the time), but other than those few suspect lines (there's plenty more than what you mentioned), he dropped a gem... especially seeing that he's touching on a familiar topic with an entirely different twist.

And I didn't say Jay hasn't said something clever since RD. I already mentioned later songs where he was snappin. That was just an example of the old Jay compared to now. I would go as far back as AG where Jay showed the smallest glimpse of his old self. You gotta admit, that's a huge drop off. I'll go into my personal problems with the current Jay later. And again, the question was, who fell off more, not who's better. And I pick the guy who can still lyrically flex on a song he's done about 3-4 times over the guy who sounds stale on a song about his own daughter.

You're an idiot. You can have black "friends" and still be a racist or prejudice against black people. There are always exceptions to the rule.

Maybe Em thinks that particular black person is different, the same way all of the racist whites act surprised when they see a black person doing better than they are or breaking stereotypes. Just because they attempt to be all buddy buddy with that particular black person doesn't mean they're not racist. Shit a lot of times the racism is subconscious. Dudes don't even know they're racist.

I'm pretty sure ALL people racist against blacks claim to have a or even a couple of black friends. It's probably the coons who let white people call them the n-word or black people faking a friendship for network purposes, but still, it could very well be true.

..... Em can't be in anyone's top 10 who doesn't want him there. So, I don't see how Em is shitting on someone's favorite emcees, if he's not good to the individual making the list.

Ummmmm , NO....where the hell do you see cringe worthy from me dumb ass? I indicated that the Lloyd Banks, Fabo, Crooked I, Chino XL type of stuff aint necessarily what made Jay great, Just because Eminem has a definite edge in that area doesn't mean Jay may not have an edge on another such as club bangers or street anthems. I indicated that the Lloyd Banks, Fabo, Crooked I, Chino XL type of stuff aint necessarily what made Jay great, Just because Eminem has a definite edge in that area doesn't mean Jay may not have an edge on another such as club bangers or street anthems. It seem like you dont read very well and you jumping to conclusions for no apparent reason around here.

Okay, let's say I exaggerated with the cringe worthy, whatever, let's call it "weak".

Now, explain how Jay isn't heavy on punchlines, but has 3 or 4 bad punchlines for every bad Eminem punchline.

Because Jay never been heavy on it even tho he could do it too! He was doin it alot more earlier in his career with the d evils example Lab Baby said and bk finest "Like short sleeves I bare arms" . I dont see him doin that like he use to on his newer shit

Is it just me or does the "Survival" joint got that Til I Collapse feel to it.... That song is hard af I can't stop having that song in my head... Literally had that guitar stuck in the mind for an entire work shift... Em brought it, hate that he dropped it with COD tho

To me Song writting>>>>>rapping ability alone

Hence why Em is the greatest of all time to me hence why he to this day is able to write songs as emotionally personal and incredible as Beautiful Pain, Stronger Than I Was, Headlights, Legacy etc flawless songs. But can write light hearted songs like Rhyme Or Reason, So Far too.

Song writting not just with verses but hooks too as Em did around 8-9 hooks on the MMLP2 while as said on many occassions Jay Z mainly has featured singers do his hooks.

On a strictly rapping tip Em is more diverse he can make a rap song about any topic so i'm easily voting Jay Z who i haven't been impressed with album wise since Blueprint 1
