I think both have their Pro's and Con's. But it just relies on the individual's opinions.

Majority you meet from both are equally as passionate towards hip hop though.

would say underground was more passionate but its all good

I would say mainstream are the worst as they seem to just stem off with wots hot and have no real opinion.Undeground are way more closed minded though to the point where I enjoy watchin them get heated when an artist they hate is doing well, not releasing thats its said artist keeping hip hop in the limelight.

mainstream

because they are not really fans they are bandwagon jumpers.. they wait to see whats popular, hot and acceptable and then dick ride on it!

underground fans are the best because they swear by there favs even when its not popular!! thats dedication! i first start listening to the ROOTS when i heard ORGANIX early 90's i was rocking all there albums and then the BANDWAGON came in 1999 when they finally got a BIG HIT with U GOT ME featuring EVE and Eryakh Badu.

and all these people were syaing how much they loved the ROOTS and theyve ALWAYS liked them and then id ask them about the catalog and they couldnt name anything but You Got Me. fake ass fans!! thats what drives underground fans crazy the bandwagon!

yeah, i bet the underground fans love catching mainstream fans in lies, it adds to their pseudo intellectual need to correct people.

A lot of mainstream fans are just ignorant.....I can't really be all that mad at them because they just don't know any better. The one thing I respect about them though is that they just listen to what they want to listen to and keep it moving. They don't look down on you because you listen to underground hip hop. On the other hand, underground actually think that people listen to mainstream hip hop they're are too dumb to understand Talib Kweli's or Immortal Technique's "complex" lyrics (even though anyone who graduated high school should be able to understand what they're saying). They care too much about what the next man decides to listen to.

Both can be annoying as hell with their ignorance.....but lets be real...mainstream fans are only annoying on the internet....but underground fans are just whiny ass bitches on the net AND in real life

BTW, there's nothing worse than a 18 or 19 year old backpacking 90s nostalgist who posts comments on YouTube like "why can't the radio get back to play shit like this?".................on a JERU THE DAMAJA video. LMAO

This describes a shitload of wanna-be rap purists. They don't know shit about what happened realistically in the 90's and late 80's. They heard a handful of Pac, Tribe Called Quest, and KRS records and think they're all knowing historians. Clowns.

in my opinion, both are equally bad but i find the difference when it comes to concerts. mainstream fans, especially girls, are fu*king insane at concerts! cuz most people are there just for the sole reason that its a big name artist. underground fans are true fans of the music and arent there jsut cuz they want on the rappers d

Both sides have their faults, but mainstream music fans can be the worse.

Look at the trends they hop on and eventually abandon over the years:

Throwback jerseys

Ja-Rule

Murder INC

50 Cent and G-Unit

Long White Tees

Autotune

Any rapper that makes the cover of a magazine that could give a shit about hip-hop (Rolling Stone, GQ, Vogue, Esquire, TIME, USA Today, etc)

Any rapper that gets "love" from the payola obsessed radio stations (Clear Channel afiliates)

Any rapper that orchestrates a "fake feud" to get attention.

Any rapper that gets co-signed by one of the "top tier emcees" (Jay-Z, Eminem, etc)

Any rapper that shits on people "getting less money than he's making."

There's plenty more.

I hate both sides. Underground fans I don't even know where to start, they aint nothing but a bunch of white boys who started listening to hip hop when Eminem came out and some how made their way to other boring artists and think if you listen to Gucci mane it some how lowers your I.Q., then you got mainstream fans that look at you crazy if you don't like the top promoted rappers, and a few of them have called me an underground fan in person but i'm far from an underground fan, the only underground I listen to is Memphis underground from the 90's and I don't even consider that underground, they consider music that used to be mainstream back in the day as underground, I've been hated on by both sides, double fuck yall niggas.

What difference does it make to you lyrically what a rapper's salary is he aint gonna give you any of it and it should be about lyrical rapping skill but there are different levels of underground.

The underground I listen to has credentials such as respect from bigger name rappers, worked with mainstream rappers, has their own name in the streets with those that really knows whats goin on in the underground, work with major Dj's its not like they some rapper rappin on places like here or completely unknown even in the hood or by anybody.

Mainstream is more for uppity snobby people that think they are to good for the underground everybody is full of themselves these dayz so thats alot of people!

Yall aint judging by talent yall limiting yourselves to the generic same ole bullshit from the same ole hand full of rappers to choose from thats like buying a coke from the coke machine thats out of everything you want but you gotta choose from a bunch of flavors you don't really wanna get.

Lol and as soon as they start to get popular they "sold out."

So much for being "loyal" stupid underground idiots.
