Gotta go wit Hov.. Em was MIA for 4 yrs.. Nas could be a candidate.. but Jay stay bein relevant

basically. If it was the last two decades i'd say nas but jay has longevity over everyone in the game. Em isn't even a consideration, dude came on the scene with potential to be one of the greats, made two great albums and then decided he wants to rap about bs and sound like a kid and occasionally make a great song. I think it's funny when people mention songs like beautiful, songs like that piss me off more then make me happy bcuz it shows you how great dude can be, and then he proceeds to make another 3-4 minute cartoon rap about bs

It's between Eminem and Jay-Z. Wayne only been hot during the middle of the decade. Hov and Em been bringin' it since 96 & 99.

Eminem is the best-selling artist of the decade on the US Nielsen SoundScan,[4] and has sold more than 86.5 million albums worldwide to date, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world.[5] In 2010, Eminem released his seventh studio album Recovery. It became Eminem's sixth consecutive number-one album in the US and achieved international commercial success, charting at number one in several other countries.

(Jay-Z)He has sold approximately 50 million albums worldwide...As an artist, he holds the record for most number one albums (SIX) by a solo artist on the Billboard 200...Eleven total albums... On December 11, 2009, Jay-Z was ranked as the 10th most successful artist of the 2000–2009 decade... 5th top solo male artist and as the 4th top rapper behind Eminem, Nelly, and 50 Cent

Eminem sold more in less time with less albums. Interesting. Also, Hov got beat out by both Nelly and Fiddy.

Based on quality:

Blueprint

Blueprint 2

The Black Album

Kingdom Come

American Gangster

Blueprint 3

vs.

Marshall Mathers LP

Eminem Show

Encore

Relapse

Jay Z >>>>> Eminem last decade. Encore brings Eminem's catalog down in comparison. Nothing Jay dropped last decade was as bad as Encore. I haven't heard all of Dynasty, but just from the singles, I like more songs from Dynasty than anything on Encore. I also don't think Eminem released anything as good as American Gangster.

Some of you are contradicting yourselves. Saying Eminem was away for four years as grounds for him not being relevant is the same as Jay being retired for the three years that he was away. Of course Jay was doing a lot of business ventures during that time, but that has nothing to do with him being a rapper. If that's the case, Diddy, 50 and Dre should be up for rapper of the decade.

Tough to say... I mean Em has been more successfully album wise but commercially Hov has been more successful (his labels, business ventures, #1s, etc.). I say Hov tho b/c of the influence, how many Jay-Z verses have been cemented in hiphop history ? How many quotables does he have ? Marshall has hot lines & sure is the better lyricist but Hov's verses I think resonate a bit more & have staying power just think - "it was all good just a week ago" , "in my lifetime" , "once a good girl gone bad shes gone forever" , "dont matter where u go u are who u are playa" , "cry me a river, build a bridge & get over it" , "change clothes" theres soooo many verses, literally it feels like theres a jay-z verse for everything. Nigga is like the rap version of Bob Dylan. Shit he even dresses like him too LOL.

I say Hov (reluctantly)....

Every Artist to release an Album under Shady Records sold Platinum at the very least

Shady Records has outsold Rocafella records by alot if you add up total sales

Everyone on Shady went Platinum or Multi Platinum from 50 Cent to Obie Trice to D12 to Eminem himself

Only Kanye West went Platinum on Rocafella the rest sold pretty low or Gold at best

Dame Dash and Biggs were also running Rocafella and part owners of it Dame Dash was the main person actually handling the business side and running the label while Jay Z was just the Rapper

Eminem has always owned Shady Records by himself and was the 1 who signed all the Artists and handled the business and ran the label and Executive Produced all the Albums

The 8 Mile Soundtrack which came out on Shady out sold most Albums on Rocafella
