I think we can all agree its Nasir Jones.

Then its a toss up between KRS, Rakim, Em, Pac, Mos Def, Common, Kweli, Lupe and Hov

"Ashes and snow falls, I wonder when the roll call for heaven gon' come

Forever gon' come

It's a cold world and I can never go numb

Look fear in the eyes, say I'm never gon' run

Sooner than later, I know the cheddar gon' come

For now I write the world letters to better the young

On tree by jury, together we hung

Now we let our chains hang, and gang bang to maintain

Afghanistan goin' through the same thing

It trickles down, at each other we aim pain

I shoot for stars, peace and exclusive cars

Through the wire I learned to earn hard

Watched gangstas turn God in the midst of War

No matter how much I elevate, I kiss the floor

It was in the wind when she said Dilla was gone

That's when I knew we lived forever through song"

-Common

Hmmm that's hard, i don't think you can narrow it down to one because there are different types of poetic tools

Aesop Rock, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch

If i was forced to choose one it would probably be Aesop Rock though, lyrically dude is unfuckwitable to me

I'm a big Aesop fan, but I think sometimes he tries too hard to go over peoples heads. You have to listen to his songs like 30 times before you completely understand what he's talking about. I like the replay value, but I wouldn't call him the best ever because of it.

To me, the best ever is probably Andre 3000. He's switched his style up so many times, and every time it's dope. Eminem is pretty wild, too.
