that country thing is inconsistent as hell lol. in the north suburb niggas are called country cause they talk like white people. and you got south niggas who dont talk with a drawl like that. philly, jersey and chi niggas are country to new yorkers. its some snob shit basically

alrite , i think i was watchin the beef between nelly n chingy when nelly says that

when nelly said that i looked at it as him taken credit for makin it cool to be from somewhere outside the east/west coast

thats the point of this thread

as a NY nigga this is news to me

yall so mad, fuck just answer the question. i know for me the first southern rap song i really liked was slow motion by juvenile and soulja slim. i'd say no limit as a whole brought southern rap to the mainstream

There are plenty of people Luke, Kast, Ball & G, No Limit Goodie MOB, UGK, Face and more made not being from the big city pop

true...

I don't know who made it cool, but it damn sure wasn't Nelly. There were plenty of Southern acts poppin before came on the scene. And just because you came out and exaggerated your accent in every song you made, doesn't mean you represented anything.

I don't think Nelly exaggerated his accent.. 90 percent of us do talk like dat...btw i'm from east st. louis and I do talk country... *shrugs*

Nah i'd say UGK and Nelly. The thing is that country shit really got bigger around say 1999-2000 and that's when UGK was exposed to the mainstream on the Jay-Z joint and also when Nelly came out and sold a huge amount of records.

Don't get me wrong i def know that niggas like Eightball & MJG also did it, but they didnt make it "cool" to a wider audience so to speak.
