But KRS and Public Enemy made it cool to study Malcolm X and the Black Panthers. Prior to KRS and Public Enemy it wasn't really cool to know your history.

yall niggas disgust me. cool points cravin ass niggas.

Man back in 1987 Just Ice had a song called Cold Getting Dumb. Think about that. And Steady B had a song called Stupid Fresh. That's how people used to talk in 1987. They used to say "I'm Stupid Fresh" like that was a good thing. KRS, Rakim and Public Enemy changed all that.

Cold Getting Dumb - Just Ice

Stupid Fresh - Steady B

wat was wrong with being stupid fresh, i have serious doubts that "cold gettin dumb" meant it was cool to be dumb u fuckin idiot. matter fact what the fuck does that have to do with u not feeling cool enough to know history until a rapper told u.

fuck whats "cool"

Honestly, I was too young at the time to really think it all the way through. But if the new phrase was "Stupid Fresh" and that's what everybody else was saying then I'd follow the crowd and say "I'm Stupid Fresh" or "I'm cold getting dumb" because thats what the rappers wee saying.

But KRS, Rakim and Chuck D were using phrases like "Fight The Power", "Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone". Rakim had some slick lines too, "Wisdom which means wise words being spoken" .

I remember Big Daddy Kane had a song called Word to the Mother. He said, "We've been here before the Mayflower" which sent me to the library.

Word to The Mother = Big Daddy Kane

The problem is that no one ever big Project Pat up as the GOAT in hip hop like Krs One fans, so when you hear Krs One then you are expecting this GOAT hype & it doesn't glow when I listen to him. That's why he suffered the backlash. That's like saying Eddie Jones is one of the GOAT shooting guards but most of his counterparts were better than him in the 90s

i missed this post at first but i completely agree

wtf are you talking about ol' following ass n!gg@. so you allowed yourself to dumb and ill informed b/c the new phrase of the day was "I'm cold getting dumb". what type of fucking idiot are you????????

fuck you mean you were to young to really think it all the way through? i was younger and obviously much more intelligent, informed and knowledgeable than you. chuck d didnt create the phrase "Fight The Power". the isley brother made a record called "Fight The Power" in the 70s and im sure someone used the phrase them. why is it that i knew that in 89 but you were 4 years older than me and didnt????

why did it take a song by bdk to send you to library to find out about pre-mayflower america? i got kicked out of social studies class in the 4th grade for asking my teacher how did columbus discovered america if ppl were already here when he arrived. once i figured out that was a bunch of bullshit it didnt take long for me to realize the pilgrims were to and i was fucking 9. why did you need bdk to point that obvious bullshit out to you at 14?????? fuck is wrong with you man? not even you can be this fucking stupid

crazy thing about it is yall claim the subforum has no credibilty and respect for krs one, and how do go about tryna restore it?

crying about an album that recieved plenty of ACTUAL accolades not being in a subforums unofficial hall of fame, which is voted upon by 40-50 people at the most(some of which are cornball ass elitists), and cryin about the possibility that other cats in the 80's may have made better music

seems legit.

Criminal Minded should be in the vault, but that doesn't mean you should tear down someone else to make your claim, ol' crab in the bucket ass nigga.

Some of y'all niggas must have lived in a bubble to not have heard certain shit. I'm glad I'm a Midwest nigga -- I never had to have loyalties to a specific region. Niggas just like what they like where I'm from.

Nobody is "tearing down" anybody. All I said is I've never heard of Project Pat, which is true. Never heard of him outside of the IC.

Krs One was average at best. I don't see this hype plus he got bodied by a pop rapper (Nelly). Kool G. Rap>>>>>>>>>>>>Krs One

So let me get this straight. You guys are saying that Project Pat is better than KRS One?

Wouldn't say that, but Nelly did give the God KRS a L

Yeah but thats like saying Michael Jordan caught an L when he was playing with the Wizards.

KRS was one of the elite MCs in his day. He didn't have much commercial success but he get much respect in the hood and in the black community.

When KRS was on B-Boy Records and Jive he was putting out a hot album every year from 87-97.

Its unbelievable that none of his albums are in the vault. That just goes to show theres a serious generation gap on the IC. I wonder how many people on the IC remember when KRS was considered the one of the hottest MCs along with Rakim, Chuck D, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap and Slick Rick.

I wouldn't say there's a generational gap, some niggas were just hot for there era but didn't have longevity. I always catch flack on here because I truly believe Rakim is the most overrated nigga in the history of the genre. And that's not on some "this old ass nigga weak" shit. Its on a "Man, Rakim is a legend to the culture.....let me check out his album and see what he was about.........this nigga isn't impressive to me" hype. Same for KRS. Even though he was aged, he was known for doing interviews talking bad about the current state of hip hop. And when it was time to back it up Nelly slaughtered him with a few bars and his response was "don't buy Nelly's album". Everyone else you named are Gods though. Moe D is a underrated artist.

LMAO.… Crack Baby Era Shit right here
