A boy needs a father so that he can mimic behavior and as he grows he begins to understand that behavior. it's not a white vs black issue per se but it does lay out in a white vs black context because as a community we are lacking strong men, strong fathers, but we're still turning out babies. I've worked with a lot of kids, teenagers in particular, who don't have a strong faher figure in their life as opposed to ones who do. Their is a marked difference.
i've witnessed boys without strong fathers act more unruly, careless, and emotionally more immature, basically effeminate, like their mothers. they lack the discipline and marked emotional maturity which allows a man to carry himself with dignity and consider his actions. I'm not saying this to shit on Vick or Vince, but I bet if their fathers were a strong figure in their lives they would have held it together a lot better.
This also doesn't mean that a man who grows up with his father as a strong example won't mess up. However, people born in the 80's recognize that a lot of black males in these present times act soft. Leader aren't born they are made. You can't be a soft leader, gotta be some substance about you.
I am take it or leave it with Whitlock. I wasn't feeling him with the NBA Lockout, I'm glad that he was one of the few journalist who championed the cause of NCAA players getting paid, and calling out the NCAA for its basic use of free labor.

When Vick had tremendous success last season was his upbringing a nonfactor? Same with Vince's winning streaks as well. Now, their upbringing is an issue because their careers have taken undesirable turns? Do we now disregard their monumental success on the collegiate level? Or, is college the ceiling of where you can be an elite team leader without two parents?
This is silly to attribute their blunders and breakdowns to household problems when they play a position thats so difficult and demanding that mediocrity is a standard and damn near expected. A career taking a severe nosedive isnt even a remarkable trajectory in professional sports, thats damn near a standard as well, but now we take out these two cats out of several leagues of sports and say it happened to them because of single mother rearing? And, tebow's "success" is partly due to his upbringing? lmao? The guy hasn't even played a full season. Talk about jumping the gun
Yea, two parent households do raise leaders and are ideal....thats where the sense in the article ends. Like Limbaugh, Riley, etc he threw some sensational bullshit on top of a bland subject to arouse interest with this one....and that basically sums up his career. He is playing a roll, and playing it well since he got us talking bout this shit! lol

Nigga jumped the opening tip and played a few plays down low nh and niggas act like he was Shaq in 00
In game 6, Magic Johnson played what may have been the greatest game of his career. Playing on the road in Philadelphia, Magic (a 6'9" point guard) started the game at center and eventually played all 5 positions in a dominating performance. Scoring a game-high 42 points and grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds—and handing out 7 assists—Magic Johnson led the Lakers to the NBA crown.
