I see a lot of folks shitting on Kanye as a lyricist.. when the truth is he's one of the best lyricist of our generation. You have to take into account the substance and consciousness he includes in his rhymes. Some niggas who are highly skilled rhymers really ain't saying shit. Meanwhile Kanye releases a song like Power where he's talking about schools closing down or New Slaves which whether you agree with what he's saying or not.. is a conscious song if you pay attention to the lyrics. All falls down.. Jesus Walks.. I can go on.. and these were all singles. Granted he does his fair share of bullshitting with brag raps/stunting.. and ranting but then that's apart of his persona. I just don't see how you cannot mention him amongst the elite

Late Registration is one of my fave albums but i didnt really even start crediting him as a rapper until Grammy Family.

Before Kanye would have some nice verses but it was always within the context of the specific song or on some over the top funny shit

Grammy Family, Still Dreamin & Wouldnt Get Far- round this time the flow picked up, the punches were more hit less miss, wordplay was smoother

Thats when it started coming together for him (2006). 2007 came and he started trying to be a punchline rapper hanging around Wayne and Fab too much

08-09 is when i can say "Kanyes just a dope rapper, period" no asterisks, no crutches

Ye could've been in my top 5.But once he got outed for not writing his own shit..I never looked at him the same after that..but he's anywhere from top 15 to 25 tho..Off the strength of him being powerful enough to shift hip hop culture (for better or worse) and his discography being great..He got 4 Albums that you could argue are classic..

I could even argue for him to be top 5 DOA. Ye's discography is impeccable. Plus not only is he a dope producer, but he can spit as well. He can be versatile w/ his subject matter w/o dumbing it down or going too far over people's head. Like someone else said....there may be other artists who are better lyrical technicians, but very few of them are actually saying anything. He has produced a shitload of classic tracks and albums for himself and others. Truth be told, there arguably isn't another artist who has contributed as much to the game as Ye from a music perspective.

No diss my nigga, but were you alive when jordan was ballin? Jordan didnt even have the best shot or defense on his team let alone the league, but overall he was the best.
