Shit was like the streets inside a building. Only thing I looked forward to was lunch & recess (food & females). Now mind you, I'm talking about middle school, not high school.

To be honest I don't see anything preventing African Americans from doing just as good in school. You can overcome all that bullshit

At 11:15 every day, the bell would ring for lunch and we would SPRINT, I mean literally haul-ass to the lunchroom. We would steal all the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, the french fries and sandwiches. Zero fucks given.

Everyone's career aspirations consisted of street hustler or next rap legend. The bathrooms doubled as dice game hangouts, and "cage-fight" matches.

Most teachers engaged in what I like to call the "soft bigotry of low expectations" with their students. 90% of us were from the projects surrounded by poverty, hopelessness, and disenfranchisement. Nobody (including my Moms) asked me when I came home, "do you have homework?" We was nothing more than extra dough when income tax time came.

I was a class clown & my classmates knew it so even when I did have a class where I'd try to buckle down and be serious it would ALWAYS be folks in the class who knew how to distract me and pull me back into clowning around. It would get so bad that I'd request to be moved to the front of the class my damn self. That was the only way I could get shitt done.

Made that same request to my 11th grade English teacher & she did me 1 better & moved my desk beside hers. When she did that I fucked around and got the highest grade in the class

It was more used as a disciplinary tool than some shit that's gonna help you in life

We actually had a day each week where in eat class you were supposed to read (anything) for 20 minutes and write about it for 20 minutes

If you got caught talking you were suspended on the spot

They called it scrapper power hour

Shoulda called it shut the fuck up and let the teachers have a chill day hour

On top of that it was way too easy to just go home

I had a partner that left every time he wanted to shit

-boring ass classes (anything History related, especially since I knew it was lies at a young age)

-wack and unqualified teachers who didn't know shit about what they were teaching

-moving too slow with the curriculum (slept through a lot of classes)

-influence of other students/"trouble-makers" who didn't give a fuck, as those were the people I related to more in life outside of school (hobbies-sports,video games, music, comedy (joke on each other), street smarts etc.)

(3rd grade) told me to read the questions 1st then the passage.....don't waste time working the math problem out mentally eliminate the two most ridiculous ans then plug in one of the two remaining....Standardize test were a breeze....would finish early and draw pictures.....Told me once you began to think you can teach yourself.....
