Nothing to be ashamed of. I started late, but i went to Amsterdam when i started (cousin was married to a suriname dude out there). There's so many scenic, officially legal places in America if you ever did start. I was pnoid thinking i was gonna fall into a canal. After i got my legs though, that shit was amazing walking around and chilling on a canal boat. Or you can never touch the stuff, and no fucks would be given.
