What yall make of Freeway Rick Ross's continued battle over the brand name and rights to 'his' name?

I put speech marks over 'his' because has he really got grounds on this unrelentless pursuit? And according to Californian Law claims have to be made within the first 2 years, so the ship been sailed...And the same can be said of Curtis Jackson and his use of 50 Cent and countless other rappers...

And Noriega been alive and still is to this day.

That's not the same the real 50 cent was dead when the rapper started using it and that's not his government name. People need to understand that this is dude government name we're talking about not just a nickname. How anybody could say the real Rick Ross is in the wrong for this is beyond me.

He's also arguing that the infringement on his government name is resulting in him being unable to clear his name. Dude says he's not about selling drugs et al, anymore. He's been trying to clean his life up. Legitimize himself, but Rick Ross continuously masquerading as a drug dealer and causing confusion with regards to who the real Rick Ross is, is a violation of his right to clear his name.

He actually explained it really well on two podcasts with Joe Rogan. I think if everyone watches those podcasts, hearing Rick Ross and his lawyer explain his case against William Roberts, they'd change their minds

Its Rozay PROFITING off his name that is the issue here. If he picked a name at random like say Rakim did (who's gov is William Griffin) it has nothing attached to it that Griffin can benefit from so there's nothing to complain about. However Freeway Rick has a reputation and that's what Roberts is using to profit.

If I became a rapper and named myself Martin Luther King and rapped about having a dream, protesting etc I guarantee you MLK's kids will sue me...and probably win too, because I'm using his image and name to sell products. Difference is...I'm sure the King family have some legal protection (copyrights, patents) on the name and Freeway Rick doesn't.

This is a bizarre situation...however if the nigga don't have standing he needs to have a fuckin seat and save himself all these legal expenses. I'm surprised the label hasn't made Rozay just make the change by now, usually this sort of controversy over names are cleared up pretty quickly outside court.

I doubt MLK's kids would have a case b. If that were true wouldn't Gucci Mane be paying all his money to Gucci Inc.?
