Each track either discussed growing up in NC, had a huge amount of social commentary, described gaining some knowledge from college and changing your outlook on life, and/or explicitly described the perpetual cycle of poverty that affects black youth. Dude also interjected a personal struggle of his own that describes having a white mom/black pops, but identifying with his blackness more and how his white side doesn't allow him to avoid racial profiling from cops and white America:
