sionb55;1144405 said:hmm... to be fair & play devil's advocate LOL... 50 had eminem, dr.dre & the machine known as Interscope backing him 100% add to the fact that he sold his promo on being shot 9 times, was waging a beef w/ THE biggest rap artist at that point & tore him down. All wayne had goin for him were mixtape features, witty lyricism & a much smaller co. called Cash Money/Young Money to back him. Keep in mind around the same time 50 dropped Wayne's bars were GARBAGE & he was renowned as "just another southern artist that cant rap & only makes bling joints & dance hits". Regardless no Wayne's success is not 50's but what wayne did was epic as well. 50 himself has even stated that there will NEVER be a release like GRODT or the massacre & has admitted that hell never pass those himself.
& at the same time u also have to consider, there werent any outlets that enabled for ppl to completely steal the music at such a pace like today. In 2002/2003 artists like Chingy & JaRule were doing 3 mil & 5 mil like it was easy, X was doin 5mil & Cam was doin a million... hell even fat joe went plat in 2001 & that was domestic sales NOT worldwide.
As of right now CM/YM have Drake going plat, wayne still selling multi-plat & YM album went gold - & this is only the beginning. At this point Nicki is blowing up (& not to be a hater but i think she gon outsell drake) and wayne gonna come out & do a world tour..... if this is about longevity sure we can say G-unit in terms of still being around but in terms of maintaining that level of success 50 still needs show n prove on his next album. Its at the point where hes diversified into diff't avenues b/c of the decline of music sales. Wayne & YM hasn't gone that route.... yet. Sure theyre success will dwindle too but if we have to determine who has the better roster of artists that have the appeal to be around longterm definitely YM (to be more specific w/ appeal i mean diverse & do other venues like TV, movies, & every area of entertainment). No one else is doing plat let alone gold except YM..... so i feel that needs to be acknowledged as well....
