Tech N9Ne has a phantom have you seen his garage? He is a multi millionaire I know this because I know someone in Blu Division, and Glasses went on tour with him. Said dude has a fucking empire. Immortal Technique said his yard is better than Central Park in New York. I forgot what country he is in but it is not America. Crooked I has a Benz. Not every underground rapper is broke, and not every mainstream successful rapper is rich.

like jamaica said, as long as underground rappers have a buzz they can live off shows. ask rugged man, that dude said he's never have a job in 20 years, pays his bills, goes to shows and people show him love 2 hours later he's just a regular guy walkin in the street. he said it himself thats how he wants his life to be.

The truth of the matter is alot of those niggas aren't marketable and can't make hit records. If you have that certain something, your music will find some way to cross over anyways.

I agree to an extent, but there's more to it than just being a rapper. Songwriting, executive producing, producing, engineering etc. is probably where the most amount of money comes from that is still connected or at least somewhat connected with making music. In fact, those are more profitable than just rapping especially in the long run.

I would inform anyone that having a degree in something is a must. Even if you make it into the game, having a degree can take one further than not having one period.

I was talking about from an artist standpoint. Anyone in the service capacity of the industry such as the songwriters, engineers, producers etc.. don't have to rely on sales or shows. They are paid for a service they provide and its non dependent on sales..unless they choose to be paid royalties instead of an upfront amount. Add the fact that the artist has to pay most of these people out of their own royalties and its even worse.

Thats why I said there are only a handful of artist really eating. Tech n9ne is obvioulsy one of them but at the same time he is the exception. He's the biggest underground artist in the game right now. Crooked I is a signed artist because of slaughterhouse but I can also tell you from experience that before that he wasn't cakin either..how could he be? What has he done or sold? I live in LA and cant tell you the last time I heard about a crooked a show. People should ask themselves how some of these artist are making money when they dont have albums out, (and if they do they aint sellin a lot) dont have endorsement, aint sellin singles or ringtones and barely doin shows? I think a lot of people have been blinded by the whole "im a hustla" facade that has been built by the industry. I'm tellin you from real life experience and existence in this industry that most people in it are barely making enough to make ends meet. Only people in the game really making money are the execs. Everyone on the ground floor is getting pennies. Matter of fact when I left warner I was offered a radio/mix show promotions position at geffen and they offered me $28k a year...the fuck ima do with that? Its slave work really and the same goes for the artist. You owuldnt believe how many artist on warner from 05 to 07 had no cake. Shit there were instances where road managers were making more money than the artist. I know cuz I used to sing off and distibute the checks to em weekly and some was getting $2500 a week from warner. Thats why I said that only people in the service side of the industry are really eating now.

Back that up a bit... Detroit's Esham has been a millionaire for years and has NEVER had a song on the radio outside the city of Detroit (and even then he only had one official single at that). Dude STAYS touring, and sells about 100K per release (he has 18-20 releases in total, EP's and group projects included). Dude stays caked up.

Right now, Hot Rod from out here in AZ is forever touring off of TWO singles... FUCKIN TWO SONGS!!! Duke ain't got swollen pockets, but he's eatin swell from his tour money.

You do realize that $2500 a week is $130K a year... right??? That's some nice change right there for a single dude.
