Mase. He jointly with Diddy dominated radio and video programming the late 90'S it was sickening bordering on Drake standards.(Drake can appear in more different formats because of singing ability). I grew to appreciate him more when The G Unit released " 10 Years of Hate" by Mase dropped. And I relealized he self imposed the end of his career when he was winning. Imagine if Drake retired right before planned release of Take Care.

More so than just any artist, as I've gotten older i've just come to appreciate both the craft and the business as a whole more. Anybody who can find a way to balance between the two and make it work gets respect, where as when I was younger I didnt get it

The Roots

Most of my fav rappers Ive been had respect for but these cats do this shit without selling alot of albums and have to split their pay all while still making great music. Much respect.

E40 and B-Legit because they never got put on display as being ones for any taking massive Ls. Kept it solid as far as I know. 40 put his son and nephews in the game and they make quality non-gimmicky music.

Mac Dre too. They all held it down for the Bay.

I appreciate hip-hop period more when I got older. I prefer older music anyway, but I respect the art form so much more now than I did when I was a kid.

Pac

When I was younger I couldnt stand Pac music. I thought dude picked terrible beats, had the worst features, and did too much strengthening at the end of his bars.

Then one day I was at Barns & Noble and caught this sale. I got the big book wit all his writings in it. All his thoughts and drafts, his plans for the future etc

Reading all that shit gave me so much insight into Pac as a person and what he had planned.

RIP

Common

Outside of "I used to love H.E.R." I didnt like Common's music.

Shit was jus too "ticka ta,ticka tah, tick a ticka too tah"

Jus wasnt feelin that shit......make it so bad, i lived in Chicago from 96-03.

The period of which he was droppin these great albums and I jus wasnt a fan.

Then sometime last year I was lookin for somethin refreshing. Hip Hop had jus kinda "jumped the shark" to me.

I listened to all his albums except Electric Circus.....WONDERFUL, PURE HIP HOP.

Common deserve a medal. Dude kept it hip hop every album.

One of the few people to do that and be in the mainstream.

Common gets all my respect.

Mr Sean Carter himself, Jay Z..I was a huge Jay hater when I first really started gettin into rap..thought he was wayyy overrated and boring..couldn't stand that every rapper had him in there top 5 lol

over the last two years or so I've grown to like Jay..I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I definitely respect his longevity and status in the game and do enjoy a good amount of his music..Jigga is cool in my book..

E-40 and Scarface come to mind. I always thought Face was average and boring but dude is deep.

One guy I definitely couldn't stand but I've come to respect in recent memory is Common. I was never with that hip hoppy backpack east coast righeous shit and still am not but I can vibe to his music now. It was an acquired taste lol.

E40- I use to laugh everytime I hear him, I thought he was one of the worst rappers of all time.

now I'm 20, dude is one of my favorite rappers of all time .

Biggie- when I was younger, I was into the Biggie vs. Tupac shit heavy, I hated Biggie.

yet The older I got, the less i cared about "Biggie vs. 2pac". N the more I appreciated Biggie.

Lil Wayne- I had a friend in HS who was like the only NY nigga bumping Wayne in 04-05. He would always urge me to listen, I wouldn't fuck with Wayne till 06.

AZ - thought he was a poor man Nas when i first heard him. The more i listened to him the greater he grew on me. Doe or Die and Pieces of a Black Man are my favorite albums

JayZ - for a 17 yr career and still remain highly relevant in appeal is a feat only he has accomplish so far. Not too many rappers can claim a almost 20 year career and still drop a platinum album

WuTang -

Nas

Smh@ U young mofos, all yall must be in your teens talkin' bout u didnt respect Common, Scarface or E-40. I understand it's an age thing tho cause back when I was a youngster......(vision me typing this in my rocking chair) I wasnt feelin De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, or any of them other flower child niggas, true Common is a part of this to but I always checked for him for some reason. Oh and I didnt really have much love for the Wu besides Meth when they 1st came out.

I respect every 1s open answers on here I like where this is going... I've always felt Common for some reason even in the kufi hat days outside of the electric phase with Macy Gray tip, he is a lyrical genius that is def in my personal 5 with Cam, Jay, Em,& Styles P... I'm from Cali so I've always understood E40 growing around my uncles drinking Olde English 40 oz, good times

On a side from rappers I've really took notice to R. Kelly and the hit after hit after hit machine he had for like a 20 year reign... He lowkey got blackballed like T.O. or A.I. Dude dropped platinum anything and had the story lines on crack with Mr Biggs and the closet joint, baby makers, club banger, granny slide and glider john, he was a mastermind in R&B... It really hasn't been the same since they pushed him away though hes still making music he's not getting any media love... Trey songs couldn't touch his microphone real spit

I hate that the piss case took focus away from R kelly's legacy.

Dude is an all time great.

He been influential in music sincethe New Jack Swing days and produced hits in ever era
