do you mean "Hip Hop History" part 2? Otherwise I see a lot of names overlooked...

Kurtis Blow

Run DMC

LL Cool J

KRS One

Public Enemy

Ice Cube

Rakim

Snoop

Dre

All of those guys had whole years (at least) where they were pretty much dominating everything

Snoop, DMX, Eminem and 50 Cent all had a huge buzz.

But I remember the summer when LL Cool J's Bigger and Deffer dropped. It was the summer of 1987. Trust me, the hype was just like Get Rich or Die Trying. The album ended up selling 2X Platinum.

Also, the threadstarter forgot about 2002. Nas had 2002 on lock. Stillmatic came out in December 01 and we bumped it all the way into the summer. Then Lost tapes came out in the fall and God's Son came out in December. All 3 albums went platinum and he won what was arguably Hip Hop's biggest beef.

I'd vote for Snoop/Dre in 93/94. They literally changed the climate of this shit with The Chronic and Doggystyle

Eminem in 2002 from recent memory... TES, 8 Mile Soundtrack and Movie...signed 50 Cent, Anger Management Tour and it was the year where he became I guess more accepted by folks as opposed to being the trouble maker.

Came here to say this. Not to mention all these things were absolute monsters critically and commercially. No one mentioned had a #1 album, a #1 movie, a #1 soundtrack to that movie, and two signees go platinum all in a 365 day period.

BTW, I hate his guts, but SMH @ no mention of Ja Rule from 01-02. That nigga was EVERYWHERE.

Also 1999 NAS dropped Iam & Nastradmus both went platinum within the same year with Iam being one of his most commercial successful album to date.

Add the wu to that list, nelly and ja rule aswell if we being objective

I think people riding 50 2003 year a lil too damn hard...

Don't care what nobody say, If carter 3 and get rich were released in the SAME YEAR, lets say, on the same damn day.... I think the sales would've been damn near even...

Wayne's buzz on carter 3 was i-n-s-a-n-e...

And on top of that, he had 25++ songs playing on the radio all year long that he was featured on..

I'm going Wayne for the curtesy vote... Didn't think 50 should dominate like this.

Pac's 2006 was crazy too

50 Cent pretty much defined hiphop, he came into the game on some Goliath shit. The reason why the majority voted for him isn't just because of trolling or some stupid bullshit but if we're talking momentum, 50 Cent pretty much had the biggest turnaround in rap history. He went from being shot to getting his shooters murked and releasing an instant classic, a top 5 album DOA.

He shut down careers left and right and he was still a new nigga by then, if you look at these freshmen niggas like J Cole and ASAP, if they were to challenge veterans they would have been run the fuck outta the game. 50 Cent did more than everything, the nigga had the balls to get at everyone. He personified the American Dream and started the best hiphop-group of all time to boot.

The nigga dropped 2 historical hip hop classics and went 10x plat on 1 and 6x plat on the other.

I would agree that's stronger than 50's year.
