I listened and was a fan of rap since Coolio, TLC and Snoop Dogg in the early 90s cause their videos on MTV

All That, Space Jam, and Living Single put that shit on blast for me as well...

Timbalands verse on "Are You That Somebody" was one of the first I really got excited to hear and Beastie Boys "Intergalactic"

Nelly's "Country Grammar" the first song I ever looked up the lyrics for, the next was "Ms Jackson"

Then later in middle school I found Eazy had died of AIDs of all things looked him up and by chance became a fanatic and true "hip hop head" venturing into old school west coast shit like MC Eiht, Pharcyde, Dogg Pound, Quik

Soon rechecked out OutKast, Bone, Geto Boys, Scarface which led to Dead Prez, Devin The Dude, Little Brother and others

By high school was heavy into TI, Jeezy and then snap music as well and reintroduced my self to Pac and Big L

Then pretty much lost interest not to long after the ring tone era atleast in new hip hop

Last new artists that really excited me were Al Gator, Blu and A-Mafia, unfortunately none of them ever broke through

For me it was sneaking listining to doug e fresh and slick rick the show and lodidodi. but what really got me loving this genre is visiting my cuzins in QB and de la souls buddy video came on video music box. that shit sealed it for me.

I really dont remember a time where hiphop wasnt a part of my life. Sooooo many memories in life are invoked when I hear certain songs from the first pussy I got and laughin because the bitch wanted me to eat it but dj quik told me not to on safe n sound. To me wantin to quit my first job but scarface sayin keep ya mind on paper, it's always been there. That best song of the summer series really be fuckin wit me because I can recall each summer through the music. Ain't nothin new under the sun, but hip hop gave me my style, my slang, and a lot of shit they wont teach you in school. If you really think about it, take hip hop out your life and we stuck in the 80s wit all that pleather and jheri curls, or them eddie murphy kits, listenin to doin the butt or whatever the fuck that song was called, nothin against funk because its dope. Hip hop has been there since I could understand the world around me and will always be around because of its presence in so many events in my life. We take it for granted now because its so vast, and at our disposal but I remember not bein able to get it for free, we ain't have cable when I was young, so all we had was tapes and radio, no internet or nothin and network tv ain't still don't give a fuck about us. It would be one nigga in the hood got certain albums so everybody dub that bitch and sometimes the tape would be too short so you missin a whole song(my geto boys shit cut off "bring it on" and I hated that forever), or cuttin enough grass to to the mall and get some shoes and go to the music store and get that E.1999 and try to understand what the fuck they sayin, nigga them rewind skills had to be on point or you'd do it too much and fuck the tape up. Niggas thought that nigga Ice cube was really a killer in boyz in the hood, and a lot of us would still kill for that impala he had, or not bein able to watch ricky die. I can go on for days, but it's more than bein a fan to me, I cant help but to love it, it's the voice of my generation, and I cant remember not havin it.

Word is Bond. I can remember when I was young, like 5 years old and me and my older brother, who's 3 years older than me used to ride around in the car when my mother was running errands. This was in the late 70s and there were alot of popular disco songs like "YMCA" "Got To Be Real" "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" "Ladies Night" and "Good Times".

I turned 6 on Sep 25, 1979. "Rappers Delight" came out on October 16, 1979 and I remember hearing it on the radio. They were rapping over the beat to "Good Times" by Chic. I was only six years old but I can clearly remember that I knew the song they were rapping over. I understood what was going on. There were three rappers and they were taking turns rapping to the beat to "Good Times".

Ever since then I've been into rap. Its really the music that I grew up on. I can vaguely remember some disco songs before rap but when Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 came out and Kurtis Blow I was blown away. Then Run DMC came out and it was a wrap. As much as I loved rap music and all of the other groups, Run DMC was the first group to get it right with the production, their style, their image, videos, everything. By the time I was 12/13 I had like 3 or 4 Run DMC posters on my wall.

Anyway, here's the "Rappers Delight" video by The Sugarhill Gang. That's the first rap song I remember hearing.

Fly clothes (At the time), breakdancing, break beats, slang, graffiti...

I was breakdancing to Planet Rock at 5 yrs old at my cousins wedding, it's definitely one of the earliest memories of hip-hop I have, we have that shit on video tape, it's a trip to get high and go back and watch it...

I remember before even buying my own rap records going through my cousins vinyls and seeing Grandmaster Flash, LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee and shit, then when I was 11 yrs old I saw this album cover...

I pestered that MF'er for days to let me listen to it, he never did and I actually never got around to listening to it until much later on in life...

Those are all things that made me fall in love with hip-hop from a young age...

Always been a fan. I can't remember listening 2 music at any point in my life without HipHop being the soundtrack. The most popular artist I remember from real young is mj like a lot of y'all. i wanted 2 dance like him til I realized that he wasn't doing nothing but pop n locking. But everything from the way I walk, talk, dress I got from this culture. Rocking denim overalls with a strap off as a boy, my 1st pair of j's, fades with a part, being a 12 13 with slashes on my eyebrow, 1st crush n gf n my 1st time. I don't think I understood the lyrics until I was of age n experiencing certain things. That takes time but I was always proficient in reading n comprehension as a youth n being exposed to a music where people speak in poetry n use all literary devices made it my favorite music. The culture is probably the main culture, aside from the culture of my parents n what they exposed me to, that I represent fully. Especially as a black man raised in nyc in the black community.

Mom listened to it when I grew up

that probably played a part

pops listened to metal and rock, probably why I like that stuff too

I"ll b real i've always listened to hip hop but didnt really explore past the mainstream bullshit they feed down your throat every hr on the hr

My exposure to hip hop really spanned from Pac, Big, Puffy and Mase, Eminem

All the big time artists, but what really made me hyped about the culture was Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin" video

That video to me summed what living a prosperous life was about I mean fucking bad bitches, big ass yacht, flossing throwing money n the crowd

That was my first "stereotypical" rap video and every time I see it, I still feel somewhat the same way about it, only difference is the fact that I know hip hop is much more than that, but its still one of the greatest fucking videos I've ever seen

Plus hip hop is partly responsible for my arrogance, from listening to all those braggadcious raps from all these egotistical niggas lol

So yea I fux wit hip hop

And I prolly always will
