Nas when I first heard

"It Ain't Hard to Tell"

Blew my mind at how good it was and what he was saying.

To this day one of my favorite songs of all time

Song made me really appreciate lyricism and pay attention to what rappers where trying to convey

That's cool and yes lyrics to me is what makes a really nice song. It' like poetry in a way.

my first hip hop memory was actually pac and big dying. i was only 3 and 4 when that happened but i remember my mom & sister being sad as fuck around that time

i remember it vaguely from 97-99 but 2000 made me a fan

jay z - big pimpin, give it to me, hey papi

eminem - stan, the way i am

dmx - what these bitches want, party up

nelly - country grammar, e.i.

dr dre - the next episode

outkast - BOB

ludacris - southern hospitality

etc.

I was up on hiphop early, just as a casual fan. But when this shit dropped, I became a hiphop head(age11)...

Honestly. I was only a fan of three rap acts until I turned 16.

DMX, Bone Thugs and Juvenile.

I was listening to rap but I wasn't a "head" until I was like 20 and I started really listening and understanding what people were saying.

By 24, I was full blown damn near backpacker mode.

For me, i grew up in it and found that there are artists for just about every occasion. I can't think of many genres that are so versatile.

Casual fan early on with whatever came on the radio then these songs and albums hit the box and changed my life forever......

I remember when I was a kid I didn't listen to music at all. I didn't give a fuck. Never had a mp3 or some shit like that. But it was some day when I was at my nigga house and his brother played Ain't No Fun if homie can't have one..It was hard time for me too. I had a girl who cheated on me so when I heard that song I was in ALL HOES BITCHES ALL BITCHES hoes mode. It was crazy.. Next days I was runnin around in school and yelling WE DONT LOVE THEM HOES.. My teacher call my mother and she beat the shit out of me lol

I was born into this shit. Hip Hop was my earliest experience of art. The music, the dance, the poetry and communication, and the graffiti are on every street corner, in every pair of earphones, on every tv and radio station, and in the tongues of the youth.

I'd be doing a disservice to the culture to minimize my first experience with it to one song.
