a nigga from an inner city school system that dumbed myself down to survive...use to score high on standardize test and be that nigga that other mafuckas is like "Yo that nigga smart". Used to get into special academic programs but hung out with niggas and did dumb shit cause it seemed like something was wrong with being booksmart.....them books didnt keep a nigga face safe after school nor did it keep money in my pockets.....the irony of it all is prolly most of the niggas I thought I was smarter than.......graduated high school and I never did.........

Now a nigga in college and I dont be giving a fuck about shit else most of the time...I'm around a 3.25 or some shit........education becomes a hustle as your get older.....but its a hustle, dont need to be a lifestyle.......

as far as trying in school.....man where I'm from, school was some time just something to occupy your time during the day........or it was a means of resource....lights, heat, food, foster parent check.....etc......so niggas just never really focused on school.....and niggas didnt have the parents that had foresight to realistically tell them to stick it out...

the system in america fails the youth at the bottom......

I think most people who don't try in school don't value place much value in themselves...you just can't get anywhere in this world without knowing basic shit which is what school teaches you...but I was a 80%-100% A student...school always came easy to me...any answer you need is in the damn book all you have to do is just read them...I always laughed at people who went out of their way to not do work or fuck around in school because they ended up spending/wasting more time and energy fucking up and screwing around than the students who just did their work and chilled ever did...and i never took the opinions of people who made fun of the "smart" people seriously...i always figured if you somehow thought it was "corny" for someone to spend their time learning then you're pretty stupid and your opinion doesn't count for much anyway

I was so far ahead of niggas in class to the point I couldnt relate to anybody........niggas used to look at me like I was an alien or something......I got my teachers on facebook tellin me that shit to this day......... I was prolly so far ahead of niggas that I ran around, did dumbass shit and still doin aight for myself....some of them niggas that graduated.....in jail for the rest of they life and I'm out going to school with only a minor record......in some aspects its good that it happened that way cause ive seen the best of both worlds......

I wish I had the sense and foresight to see everything thru tho..........I just didnt have that.......I aint even gone lie

yeah I am Panamanian and you're right in that my family being immigrants has something to do with why I value traditional education, but when I say book smarts i'm not just talking about school...i'm talking about being just that...book smart...someone who reads to gain knowledge...i'm all for having street smarts too because you need to know how to handle yourself in the world but me having street smarts didn't devalue the knowledge i got from reading...if anything it enhanced it and allowed me to apply it in better ways...i knew niggas who'd make fun of people for reading for pleasure or expressing any type of interest in learning at all...those are the ones that confuse me...

In high school, I hated getting up early, riding the bus out to the boondocks and sitting in through 8 classes everyday...therefore, I only did enough to get by

i still wound up learning shit, I just did as little studying and homework as possible...I got somewhere close to a 1200 on the SAT

in college, I was the same way but since there were only a couple of classes a day, and only 5 or 6 classes a semester, it wasn't monotonous.....so I liked it and did alright

plus college caters to my learning style, I am more of an analytical/writing type...I beasted out on tests and essays...plus I participated in discussions so I built a good rapport with professors

finished college with a 3.3 overall, 3.5 within my concentration

I didnt do shit in high school and went to continuation high school my jr year, and my 10th grade years' GPA was 0.17(Yes that zero belongs there). I have my high school transcript hung on the wall of my room to show that high school grades are not as important as people stress it to be. Not only this but i did graduate earlier then all of my friends who went to normal high school, and looking at some of them now( 4 years later) most are in debt and have children and have no desire to continue learning through books outside of school(Which i think is from working their asses off in high school). I am currently enrolled in college(Jr college of course).
