Hoping on trends and crossing over to white folks

Ppl really overrate jayz's white fanbase

He had small whitebase fanbase but they were rap heads. Mainstream white folks on Jigga bandwagon around the time he came back from retirement, when Im seeing all these white celebs out the blue calling Jay-z there favorite rapper and Reasonable Doubt there fav album while it maybe true shit is suspect. hardly any white folks at his shows then now its alot more of them..

This man is as hollywood/mainstream as they come.

For few years there he surpassed Em as white folks favorite rapper

Last year when open the Barclays compared to when I saw him in 1999 hell of alot of more white (or folks who look white) last then in 99.

He has very good to top notch lyricist ability incorporated into the ever popular materialistic, pop, or hood music. He was able to adapt to various rap regions to make good music with those regions representatives. He also didn't branch out his comfort zone to the extreme and when he did, he showed his lyrical ability (Music that expresses emotion ) with songs like Meet the Parents, Song Cry, Soon You'll Understand, This Can't Life, Where Have You Been etc. He generally picks great beats or has the best producers working with him. His business sense is pretty impeccable too.

First off, people run different races. You can't compare JayZ to a Ghostface. JayZ became a rapper to make money and to create a brand. He was never in it for art's sake. He was never in it to further the culture. Jay started rapping because he saw dollar signs. Also, JayZ isn't more relevant than any of his peers, he's simply more commercial. Relevant is completely subjective to the listener. For me, JayZ lost all relevancy way back when.

To answer the question...

-He was more business-minded, while a lot of his peers were all about the culture and art of rap.

-He had no problem stabbing niggas in the back or in other words, he didn't follow the street code that a lot of other people did aka he kept it business.

-He had no problem consciously ridding the game of his competition.

-Everything was calculated. He had a plan.

-He ran a different race. He was all about hits and album sales etc.

-He embraced and wanted fame. This is huge, because most people don't want to get too big. That shit is way more of a curse than a nightmare. However, if you embrace it, a lot of good things can come of it.

EDIT: Plus let's not act like the old Jay wasn't dope af lyrically lyricist . He may have fallen off in that regard, but RD/Blueprint Jay is no slouch. Plus as you alluded too.....he's not a businessman he's a business, man.

Fixed:

Has more white fans =/= white ppl's favorite rapper

Jay Z maximized presence in All Regions.

Nas and DMX all though all "Lyricist" Weren't able to do this.

Nas and DMX doesn't have a "Money Ain't A Thang " ft Jermaine Depri smash hit "South collab" single.

He doesn't have a "Big Pimpin" ft UGK.

Emprace the South and you win if you're a New Yorker (Say hi 50)

I don't have much to comment since a lot of points were already covered but to Nujerz point, Jay white fan base is waaaay bigger now. He's the Black street rapper that it's cool for hipsters to like.

Jay accomplished this thing pre retirement of being really really Hip Hop popular, dominating a region(NY Tristate, whole corridor) like no one else before but yet not being too pop. Hence why 50 always use to throw shots that Jay is huge in NY but not global like himself(50). It's also while Jay is known for hits after hits, he didn't get his first number 1 single until "Empire State of Mind". When you go to a Jay show now, you can tell who were Jay fans in 99 and who's been Jay fans say post Beyonce/Post retirement.

@HipHop Definately agree his Target audience includes more than just the "urban audience" Post 08' . Also the "Hip Hop Generation" now includes those 40 years old and over also.

His non music moves do a lot for his ability to reach other fanbases.

I think his moves should be studied in curriculums

I agree with this statement but at the same time goes with adapting with the newer generation.

Well, if you mean that's why he's nice then yea.

Fuck Jay-Z! -Pac (maybe this saying helped Jay-Z's career)
