What's that one song that most appropriately describes Nas' entire career from Illmatic up until now?

ether

without it the general public would have wrote him off as a washed up 90's rapper.. ether propelled nas career in the 00's

STILLMATIC is the GOAT NY HIP-HOP album of the 00's

"If I Ruled The World" & "Hate Me Now" are probably his biggest commercial hits.

I like "If I Ruled The World" because it was a hit song and he was still spitting dope rhymes.

Nowdays, most rappers are forced to spit bs on 'hit' singles for commercial sales.

I miss the days when songs like "Sugar Hill", "It Aint Hard To Tell" "Can't Knock The Hustle" & "Juicy" got radio play

Bridging the Gap: Hes the last link between "real hiphop/underground MC's" and pop culture. Hes the only "MC" that still gets mainstream love. Well him and Jay, Kanye and Lupe anyway.

Close thread, he said every word I was thinking about writing, how could it not be Ether considering How Jay Z tried to flatline the credibility of this man's whole career?

"If I Ruled The World" is the most important song of Nas' career. It was the song that took him from local hero to an international success. Not only that, but that song balanced street poet with the social and political commentary that is present in his music now.

"Ether" would be next as it marked the return of Nas. Then "I Can" because that's the biggest single of his career. Then there's "One Mic".

I Gave You Power

His first great original concept song.. it set up a trend of superior concept tracks like One Mic that puts Nas on a higher level as a lyricist.

Also it demonstrated how he could outshine tracks from Illmatic, even though It Was Written as a whole wasn't better than Illmatic.

One Mic- oh shyt, he still got it---the geniuos of that song increases with time.

Ether- no one knew he had that in him.

If I Ruled the World- went mainstream withut crossin over---one of the best rap songs ever----and NO ONE gets to collab w/ Lauryn Hill, before or after

NY State of Mind-lyrically, the type of song that had people thinkin he re-inventin the wheel with this rap shyt.
