What is the best way to find a new job?

Whenever you get an interview with a big company, make sure no one else is around. I had an interview recently with a huge company, it was a hangouts interview with 3 top dogs. My sister decided to bring her kids for lunch while I was doing it and her son kept coming into the video and I didn't get it. They basically told me, due to background noise and kids running around, you will not be offered the position.

Guess seeing as i was on an interview for a higher position internally at another location i can add

Ok first off, the location is in new york on park ave and you have to have your name on a list like a damn club to get past the front desk, the person i was interviewing with didnt give them my name ahead of time and didnt answer the phone when the front desk called their extension, straight amateur hour from the jump.

Then finally like 20 mins later i had to end up calling the interviewer to ask to be let past the front desk, so they finally came down and met me directly and took me to the conference room for the interview, we start talking and like 5 mins in another person just shows up who i didnt know and sat down and all of a sudden this shit is a tag team interview, threw me off my shit a little bit but i think i still did good.

But yeah interviews can be a bitch.

I had an interview that threw me off like that but luckily my guy who was trying to hook me up already let me know how its gonna go

He said the dude that would interview me purposely acts like hes not paying attention to try n throw u off then ask random ass questions when u think he forgot about u.

So we start and a minute in while im talking he grabs his bag from his desk pulls out his ipad, turning it on, moving it around, typing shit, etc no eye contact with me stopped holding my resume n i didnt wanna run outta shit to say n didnt wanna ramble on about nothing

Even with the info my friend gave me about the interview i was convinced this dude wasnt listening for shit til the end when we were wrapping things up n he summarized what he thought about my experience.

He ended up putting me on to a 2nd interview

When i was really looking hard for a job and i got multiple calls, i still went to the ones that werent priority just to practice for when i got the interview i really wanted. That way u wont be nervous and you'll be way more comfortable and experienced for the interview u really wanted n its all still fresh in your head cuz u been doing it all month

Never turn down an interview n try to learn from all of em

And if its for a big company for an advanced level position research the little facts about the company and throw that in there for why u wanna work for them

Most o my recents job interviews have involved multiple people. Hr, head honcho,s and at least one person who actually knows something about the job you applying for..leadman,supervisor, potential coworker.

I had a staffing company offer me a IT job that paid 11 an hour ,lmao I got my ccna and a degree so I was like wtf that shit low as fuck and got out of there.

Because my sister who insisted to come over even after she was told, I have an interview with Google. Decided to sit here, listen and her son kept coming into the video. Then basically said, you didn't get it because it wasn't meant for you.

Getting a solid job is a full time job on its own. Last semester I applied to 60+ companies and got about 15 interviews which turned in 4 summer internship offers.

Its's a grind that must be done. That said I start my new internship tomorrow. 8 intense weeks pretty much. Essentially this internship is an 8 week long job interview/audition for a full time position.

Im doing like Lebron and straight disconnecting from social media for the next 8 weeks.

Priorities.

And I would have told her she needed to stay her ass at home with her bad ass kids. Then to say, "It wasn't meant for you." I would be having some serious words with her. No fucking way do you allow family to cost you a job opportunity.

Are internships usually paid? Or are the hours part time so u still have time to make money on your own?

its paid, 15 an hour plus a cash bonus at the end of the 5 weeks

I'd say it depends on where. If it's a government agency or small companies they may not pay you, probably won't pay you, to be honest. You may just get a stipend for transportation and such, in DC summer internships on Capital hill are notorious for not being paid. The experience and network are good, though.

My internship is paid. About $800 a week for 8 weeks. Pretty good gig. Big Fortune 500 companies will often pay in that same range or higher i.e Google, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Johnson & Johnson etc. Some may even throw in housing and such.

My boy at Goldman Sach got about 30K in one summer. My girl at EY got about 9K for a summer as well. They vary man.

This is my 4th internship. My first internship was unpaid, but I had a food and travel stipend. The second one was paid (the pay was equivalent of $16/hr in terms of purchasing power in SE Asia) and they covered a 1/3 of my travel expense to SE Asia plus paid for my housing which was like $1.5k a month. The 3rd was unpaid, but it was a quick 8 week PT stint to get some experience in federal government contracting and consulting.

Again, it varies, but definitely try to get a paid one. It will help when transitioning to another one or a full-time job, especially when they ask how much your last internship was paying you. Also, paid internships tend to actually "work" you since they are paying you. They want to make sure they're making their return on investment (you).

indeed.com and linkedin are good resources. You can direct message some HR folks about jobs on linked in which comes in handy and could make you look persistent in their eyes.

Not in this order but:

-Find a temp agency and have them find a job for you.

-Find out what skills are needed in that job and learn how to do that job or educate yourself on the language used in that job (for instance in TV you should know what this means: 2 shot, 1 shot, 3 shot, VO, SOT, go to black, iris down, change the slug, Router 12 RX 12, font, tab, courtesy, locator,).

-Dress the part for the job

-Drop a name of someone you know in the job (even if they only responded to a letter of yours)

-Ask friends and family if they know of any jobs available

-Offer to do an Internship or Shadow the job for free to learn

-Keep applying for the same position or similar positions (DO NOT apply in the same company for multiple positions that are not related. Don't say you want to be a Reporter and then also have an application to be an Business Accountant and then a Sound Engineer. YOU will get no job and be flagged so your resume won't be looked at)

-If you didn't go to college, you might eventually wanna lie and say you did and have some stuff to back you up.

Maybe later if they find out...at least you got the job. YOu asked me how to get a job, NOT keep a job.
