With your major I think you need a masters to get a half decent job, so a 3.0+ is a must just to get accepted into grad school.

I plan to go to Law School to be honest.

And the Law School im looking at has a really great think with my undergrad university...so personally with a decent LSAT score I could easily get in with a 2.7 GPA.......

I'm just saying that I'm more of looking to establish connections and graduate on time while at college, then break my back for a 3.6-3.8.......

Im fortunate to be in this position where my family has a business I can work at because I dont really have to depend on my college degree to get me a job...

For example....L.A reid's son goes to my College, he has a 2.0 GPA.........he's already set for life so he knows that the degree wont matter for him job-wise...he just wants to get a college degree from a prestigious school, I am the same way to a lesser extent.

You need to get 3.2-3.5 if you plan on going to a great law school. You want to go to a Harvard to put yourself where you can become a corporate lawyer. You can do what you do but it's hard to get a job as a lawyer no matter where you came from. Your generation needs to be smarter, my gen did what you did and we can't find good jobs for shit. The fact that you go to a very good school should be more incentive to achieve. It's around you. I can see you underachieving at a wack Univ, but at a good one, I would have to shit on the comp. I guess you ain't built like that.

Here's some advice from someone who's just graduated law school. For top law schools - they look at not only the GPA, but at the major. For easier majors, like sociology, psychology, the top schools won't look at you unless you have a high gpas like 3.5 and above. Harder degrees, like engineering, sciences, they will you some slack for the gpa, so you can do 3.2 and above. Also, they look at the school you're going too as well. A 3.3 at a school like MIT is not the same as a 3.3 at a party school like U Miami.

I would recommend nothing less than 3.3

I have a question.

You know how in college the teachers always assign you chapters to read? But they never really check if you did the reading or not?

Is it possible to get by without doing those readings?

I would imagine sooner or later you're going to be quiz/tested on it and that's how they check.

In addition, there are schools who value LSAT score over GPA and vice versa. People with a high GPA/low LSAT or high LSAT/low GPA are called splitters. They're usually crap shoots, but honestly. If your LSAT is at or abo e 170, you're guaranteed a top 20 school regardless of GPA honestly. now, if you want to crack T-14, you need to apply early, work hard on your personal statement(I'm on my 5th draft and will probably have like 10 more before I apply). You need every advantage you can get.

That said, if you're black and can't go T-14, I'd go Howard. It's in the top 10 of most recruited law schools in the country. When firms look to hire black lawyers, they go to Howard. At Howard if you're in the top 40% of your class, you're pretty much guaranteed to have a job out of school.

then why would you slip on your gpa.

1) if you got a 3.5 and like a 165, you could get a complete full ride to Howard (but then you'd be stupid to go to Howard and not a T-14 lol)

2) once you get to Howard, if you've been lazy all through Morehouse, you gone be lazy in law school. A place where everyone knows they have to get into the top half to get BigLAW. Good luck with that. Its hard to break a habit.

If you're an URM, as long as your gpa isn't shitty, you'll have a shot as the top schools

3.1 GPA

170 LSAT

Accepted: Stanford, NYU, Chicago, Michigan

3.3 GPA

165 LSAT

Accepted: Columbia, Georgetown, Michigan, UPenn, Chicago

haha I got that bitch bookmarked. Lookin' to see where Da Gawd needs his scores to be. I think I'll get my 170, which will guarantee me T-14(not that 165 or so would mean I'm out, but I want 170 or above). If I get my 170, I might fuck around and sneak into YHS, but I doubt that though.

Depends on what you want. If you're serious about sociology you're probably going to have to go to grad school, and to get into a good school you'll need a high GPA... I'd shoot for a 4.0 and as long as you get over a 3.5 you should be cool.

Graduating with honors is of course good, I think most schools put that around 3.5. At my uni if you graduated with a certain gpa in all your major classes and did an undergrad thesis or internship you could get departmental honors, which looks good on your resume too.

That's not the attitude you want for law school tho
