Don't know why niggas don't get this.

Go listen to Star Power.

Wiz can make pop music believe me. But nigga pop music now is corny and lazy. Ex. Pull up Roll Up lyrics. He dont even write no more. And for niggas to say that a artist has the right to do what they want, yall are correct. I just whised i never became of artist that I liked alot and was loyal to, then they turned thier back and did some wack music.(Lil Tunnafish, Wiz,Drake)

Of course Wiz isn't in a protege position, why should he be when this is his third album unlike Cudi, Cole, Drake, Wale, Big Sean, & B.O.B who are all on their debuts or sophomore projects??

Sometimes it's beneficial to have a mentor who is already established so you can navigate properly through all the pitfalls, quick-sand, and quagmires that you encounter being an artist.

Look at the horrible reviews that "Rolling Papers" got from nearly every reputable publication and the disappointment from the fans.....now look at the mixed reviews that Lupe got and how his album sales dropped from his last album. I think Atlantic is a horrible label for a rapper, they try to hard.

However, Wiz has a Gold album and a 3X platinum single even if most people didn't feel the direction of the project, and now we get to see if he will alienate his core fan-base with his next project which most likely won't have the strength of a "Black and Yellow" to lead it off with.

Bolded has some truth to it, but even with Wiz being in the game as long as he has, for his major label debut; he could have definitely been in a protege position. But Wiz doesnt seem like the type to be under another established artist. But Atlantic definitely is a horrific label for a rapper. I never could tell all those years when TI was the headlining rapper on the label up until "Live Your Life".....

To me tho, as much as I fuck with Wiz, I think he gave them exactly what Atlantic wanted. They didnt have to go in the studio and throw their power around the way they did to B.o.B and Lupe, Wiz's natural pop sound was good enough for them. Maybe on another label, Wiz wouldnt have gone all out pop but we'll never know. His next album will be interesting but I'm pretty nervous bout that.

Yeah they struck the Lotto because Wiz was already an established artist with a loyal following and nice buzz who they didn't need to develope and his sound was commercial enough to generate a lot of money with very few high-profile features.

Sometimes being on a small label with major label backing is better for an artist because there is a buffer between the suits at the "Big 4" and an artist, so you will see Kanye West have input and influence on a Big Sean project instead of just Barry Weise....a Wale project will have input and influence from Rick Ross instead of just Lyor Cohen....and a Emenim project will have some Dr Dre influence and input instead of just Jimmy Iovine...

^^^thats why I think it's important to have actual former artists in Exec positions (word to JayZ).

Wiz got Gold and I betchu they gonna shoot for the roof on his next album so don't be surprised if Skylar Grey is on the lead single.
