if you think about it, its not like hip hop is gonna be any worse than it is now!...basically jay-z is like the hip hop pope but the guy is just in the game for show. as a hip hop fan if i were to ask myself the question "what do i get out of hearing jay-z rap?"...the answer is NOTHING AT ALL.

If Jay-z retired u'd still hear about him every other day because he's doing so much more than just rap. He's already a legend, nothing more he has to prove, basically it would just be one less platinum rap artists out of the 5 or so that can sell like that.

Nothing would be different and it has already been said that he would be around in some capacity.

I think it would be good for hip hop. He should focus on bringing out new young artists from New York so we can have some balance in this new generation

Well i really dont understand how ppl expect Rappers to Retire. See once your a Rapper your forever Rapper. You could be doing some random shit and bars pop in your head (And if they are hot how can u let them go to waste?). The day when a Rapper truly can stop making music that's how u know his craft was forced. And when u love Hip Hop u can't stop making music and Listenin to Music... even if that means u have to search for the good shit.

True Story...

i didn't know hip-hop was stable enough to retire from, lol no one cares about hip-hop....i laughed at the idiots freezing in the cold on 6th ave. when ever fat beats

throws something "big". hip-hop was was raped and disrespected before it's death. jay-z hasn't shut his fucking mouth yet and this guy is more relevant than him..

the war was lost...hip-hop was a good hustle for the last 30 years, but now you guys must move on. lol you can still be an athlete or even president now.

there are no new NY rappers, just a bunch of mixtape rappers who are never gonna blow up. see Papoose, Jae Millz, etc and this is coming from a NY rap fan.

yeah thats what I mean. Besides Charles Hamilton, who isnt really doing much for NY, nobody's out there. The south got J. Cole and B.o.B. Midwest got Cudi. The West got a gang of dudes like Pac Div and Nipsey. Everybody else is on the come-up. NY need to do something quick or they gonna be left behind with the 90's

If Jay-Z was to retire, the hip-hop game would be much less interesting. Some artists like Drake and Eminem can still excite me and I would cop their next albums, but with Jay-Z being gone, there would be a HUGE void. Jay-Z has been relatively quiet for a couple of months now, and artists still can't pick up the slack. It's sad a 40 year old man is better than the entire industry, lol. This new generation of rappers needs to step their game up....and I'm 25.

Hell yeah, sad but true. I live in the Bronx, where hip-hop was created, and the NY scene here is close to DEAD. No one is excited about NY rappers right now aside from Jay-Z. If Jay-Z is not involved, most people arent trying to hear it. I remember when 50 and G-Unit was first coming out in early 2001-2002.....WOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!! The NY scene was alive and bursting with energy. Even older people were feeling it. Joell Ortiz isn't getting anybody hyped. Neither is Papoose....NY hip-hop needs Jay-Z to stick around for at least another 5 years, real talk. Without Jay, NY would be as relevant in the rap world as Kentucky or Hawaii.

If Jay-z were to retire it would hurt the young new cats that are trying to get in the game. Jay-z is respected becuz he cosigns dope music, he cosigned Lupe before he got hot, and he has helped take artist like Lil Wayne to the next level. Artist like J Cole have a better chance to make it becuz of their relationship with jay.
