Rockers never got tired of their shit!

wrong. 80's rock is hated by a large majority of people and is the reason grunge and alternative really took off in the early 90's

Some 80's soft rock and one-hit wonders were GOAT though...

I think a thread should be made discussing the differences between hip hop, rap, gangsta rap, and pop rap.

For instance...Snap music was hip hop? Are you fucking kidding me? That was rap shit...

anything that sounds like a polyphonic ringtone from the late 90s-Early just sounds real cheap. Mostly because the classic boom bap sound is at least gotten from sample of live intruments. But songs like "If I Could Go" Angie Martinez or "Wanksta" just sound cheap now. Yuck

Co sign that heavy latin sound that was forced. Outside of tracks like Still Not A Player or What Yall Really Want its cringe worthy

my man..hahahhahha, all due respect, wanksta is one of my favorite songs!!! hahaha! on another note, u remember when angie martinez tried to have a rap career??? WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ABOUT?????

ay i still like the song not commenting on the quality of it just the sound or the way the production's handled. It sounds like outdated equipment being used. Most of the studio programmed songs today sound a lot fuller & more crisp. You can hear the layers of sound & the mesh better.

Now if only the rappers could match that

songs like "Money In the Bank" by Swizz Beatz. Swizz was literally swinging at every pitch in the mid 00s. he knocked some out (Upgrade U) but had tons of pop ups and wasted swings (a lot of his work with Cassidy, all his "Hey Hey!!" "Showtime!!" "Whats Up") there was a period where all his beats sounded like a toddler bangin on pots & pans with a whistle

co sign the Trap & Snap music- try listening to Walk It Out or Chain Hang Low

same for the Organ synth DJ Khaled tracks. Everything after I'm So Hood was overkill

Thank Dip Set & Heatmakers for running the soul samples into the ground smh

Any beat with the exaggerated clap & high hat. Kanye used it a lot be he layered his beats well + his drums were nice

When producers started mimicing Timbaland it got bad. All Y'all, We Need A Resolution & Big Pimpin type beats were great then it started sounding diluted. Ryde or Die Bitch is good example of a latin sounding song

^^ ditto for the Neptunes

eh yeah, there's some good bits of music in the mess of 80's crap lol

it's funny how different hip hop is from other genres though. it's like the majority of hip hop just doesn't age well, where as other genres you can throw on a record from the 60's or 70's, or even earlier than that in the case of blues, jazz, etc. and it'll sound good. I mean you can put on Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" from '71 and no ones gonna be like "oh what the fuck is this? live instruments? fuck outta here this sounds old" but throw a hip hop/rap song on from just a couple years ago and it'll probably get hate, and the people that do love it are the ones that have memories attached to it so they feel nostalgic.

I just find the differences in genres fascinating...music nerd shit lol

what do you attribute it to?

Rap music is based on now...What's going on now...What the sound is now...What the trend is now...So most of it doesn't sound as good later...That's also part of the reason it's hard for older rappers to stay hot...

okay thats an interesting point. because i am a believer that the reason in decline of quality in hip hop music is less about the artist and more about the increase in use of digital equipment. Analog equipment gave rap music that 'hiss' quality we all like. just like with rock music, using digital quipment made actual performmance and quality of delivery less an issue because with digital equipment u could cut, splice, improve pitch adn basically 'mail everything in'. the need for chemistry between emcees, producers, and musicians became less and less. Untill u have an era like now, the wu tang clan doesnt even have to be in the studio to record an album. i think we can definitely see how their albums benefitted from in stuio chemistry, compare 36 chambers to iron flag.

its like rozaytabernacle said, rap music is to based in now. Look at it in terms of fasion. The 'james dean look' is gonna always look good. white tee, hard blue denim and boots...cigerette pack rolled in sleeve optional...a nigguh throw that shit on in 1953 or 2013 its gonna hold its own. But try throwing on an 8 ball jacket or some shit now..u get laughed off the block. Hip hop is way to based in whats current...

Any song that talks about fashion or style or a trend of a particular point in time. If the trend dies, the song will automatically die with it. Like X said, it's more to a niggas life than money and clothes.

Scarface laid it out:

And if I leave they won't respect the South cause niggaz soft

Talkin 'bout what's in they mouth, talkin 'bout they cars and house

And that ain't what we all about, we out here workin in a drought

A lot of the hiphop of the 99-03 era. when niggas just found out that they dont need a Premo/ Dre producers anymore to produce "hits". The instrumentals sound so cheesy. I blame all the Jobs and Gates in the world for making it too easy.
