Man Nas just was just so detailed on Illmatic bruh:

My window faces shootouts, drug overdoses

Live amongst no roses, only the drama, for real

A nickel-plate is my fate, my medicine is the ganja

Here's my basis, my razor embraces, many faces

You're telephone blown, black, stitches or fat shoelaces

Peoples are petro, dramatic automatic .44 I let blow

And back down po-po when I'm vexed so

My pen taps the paper then my brain's blank

I see dark streets, hustling brothers who keep the same rank

Pumping for something, some'll prosper, some fail

Man fuck this I'm bouta go listen 2 some Nas now

so max b contributed to hip hop with his video's and saying wavy but nas didn't with illmatic?

Illmatic alone does not mean much to hip hop it means a lot only to a certain era of nyc.

How you figure that?

Bc it's a small demographic that's illmatic actually registers with. There is not one song off illmatic that stays in constant rotation. They have old hip hop radio stations in a lot of states now and it's rare you will hear a track off illmatic. Illmatic along with the jayz beef along with if I ruled the world and belly equals a contribution.

So you saying its not an overall contribution because you haven't herd a song on the radio in a while? Come on man. Even whack rappers somehow name Illmatic as an influence and not just in NY. Hell, not just on the East. It's a HIP HOP classic. That would be like saying Scarface's The Diary isnt a hip hop contribution cuz you don't hear songs on the raido and it represents just the early southern era. GTFOH

Illmatic is on so many media outlets and rappers greatest and influential lists that it's no real argument otherwise.

its just seems to me that resurgence of illmatic seems like jayz media friends are just making sure Nas gets his due so he won't be put in a group with the rest of legendary nyc rappers. Bc growing up living thru the jayz Nas beef in nyc, illmatic seemed to be an afterthought when speaking of hip hop.

Nas took what others like Rakim, KRS-One, & Kool G Rap started & perfected the balance. Between the intricate rhyme schemes, vivid detail, fresh concepts & natrual flow. He influanced a whole new generation of MCs. Made it ok to go against the grain & detrimental to age gracefully lyrically.

Couldn't put it better.

I respect your opinion.

I'm from Louisiana and my uncle put me on Illmatic when I was like 7 and I didn't understand it at first because we don't have them big ass projects. ......but we all have that same struggle so we just felt that shit.

I feel u, I wasn't trying to make anything regional , thug motivation 101 changed nyc , and uncle Luke changed atl and the bay changed master p

Uh, you must of grew up in an iffy ass part of NYC then. Illmatic has been acknowledged as a classic for many years. Way before Nas came to Def Jam and him and Jay were beefin. Even Jay himself said it before he dropped Stillmatic..

"One was eeehhh, the other was Illmatic."

There hasn't been a "resurgence" cuz it's just been universally known as a classic.

Anything with some meaning that's different and changes the game is a hip hop contribution. All them dudes you mentioned contributed to hip hop in a big way. Even Thug Motivation 101, which I didn't like when it first came out but more and more I've realized that album has aged quite well.

I'll admit, Illmatic doesn't have a single that gets play on the oldies station.

You might hear OPP, Award Tour or California Love before you'd hear anything off Illmatic.

Max b my favorite rapper rapper of all times. He is a true innovator and pioneer. The term wave and wavy have been more prominent in hip hop over the last ten years than his name Max B.

Before Max b , in studio videos were looked down upon, he made that part of an artist catalogue.

He made the mixtape game legit by getting paid hundreds n thousands by making mixtape D and going on tour. He also ghostwrite plenty records number one hits for Diddy (last night ) and Jim jones (babygirl we fly high)

He also made it acceptable to be a street all around artist. (Look at the rap game now how many Max bs are there)

So what did your favorite rapper contribute to hip hop

Never knew max b wrote "last night" dope song
