Great thread. I was gonna say nas vs jay but that was on a small scale, we got 2 classic albums in Stillmatic and Blueprint, plus the resurgence of Nas...thats about it

But w/ BDP? Ngga...Mfers might still be rappin like Curtis Blow if not for that. That was the record that took the gloves off rap and made it ok to be personal, and not rap w/ the same 'hip hop, a hippity, ha ha!' style.

I voted for Nas/Jay but the Busy B vs Kool Moe Dee battle should be up there. That's how it all started.

I did consider adding that to this thread, I decided not to for a few reasons mostly because that was less of a battle and more of a Evolutionary Milestone for the culture and sadly enough the majority of voters have no Familiarity to either of the participants so rather take away from its overall significance I left it out...

50 cent vs ja, Cause it got that wack ass nigga ja rule the fuck outta here
Personally there are just as many Ja Rule Songs I like as there are 50 and personality wise I am more @ peace with Ja But I respect 50's grind and determination more so it tis what tis...

Man yall need to do yall history lol smh BDP crushed a whole style of rap. The origInal purpose of the rapper was basically to tell you how good his DJ/CREW was. Mc Shan was still rappin like that. Just look at the rhyme pattern

Mc Shan, The Bridge

Hip hop was set out in the dark

They used to do it out in the park

Every place they said his name it rang an alarm

Otherwise known as Mean Teen Tom

A brother who's known for his rap

Jabby Jack, Larry Lah, third least not last

A cool brother by the name of Gas

Face Brothers made you get loose
...

Dimples D, the girl, she was great

Her and Marley Marl went and cut a plate

They used to rock it out in the place

And the title of it was 'Sucker DJ's'

And then he strolled along one day

And then he walked into a girl named Shante

1, 2,3...1,2, 3. Repeat, etc. Not even dissin, but like a nursery rhyme. Literally.

Now BDP, Bridge is Over

They wish to battle BDP, but they cannot

They must be on the dick of who? DJ Scott La Rock

Cause we don't complain nor do we play the game of favors

Boogie Down Productions comes in three different flavors

Pick any dick for the flavor that you savor

Mr. Magic might wish to come and try to save ya

But instead of helping ya out he wants the same thing I gave ya

I finally figured it out, Magic mouth is used for sucking

Roxanne Shante is only good for steady fucking

MC Shan and Marley Marl is really only bluffing

Like Doug E. Fresh said "I tell you now, you ain't nothing"

What's the matter with your MC, Marley Marl?

Don't know you know that he's out of touch

What's the matter with your DJ, MC Shan?

On the wheels of steel Marlon sucks

You'd better change what comes out your speaker

You're better off talking bout your wack Puma sneaker

Cause Bronx created hip-hop, Queens will only get dropped

You're still telling lies to me

Everybody's talking bout the Juice Crew

Funny, but you're still telling lies to me

Just look at the difference in the length of a bar! Plus KRS was actually shyttin on nggas, PERSONALLY. Not to mention he was confident enough to actually... SWITCH his flow!?!?!? On some jamaican shyt. Nggas was still doin 1, 2, 1,2, 1, 2 and he came and spit some patois on nggas!!!?! Its a sad day in hip hop if yall dont realize this

I was going to say Nas vs Jay but BDP vs Juice Crew was pretty big for its time & help lay down the foundation on what beef on wax should be like

Nosign. Shan goes off in the last verse of The Bridge

Dead dreams, bought and sold

You gotta try and receive your goal

However you do it however you may

Don't ever listen to what nobody say

Cause I will tell you the deal

You gotta go by what your heart feel

Cause if you don't you'll be misled

By stupid little things put inside your head

Or someone else that you will see

They're trying to lead your destiny

By the time you think about it you're grown

Then you say goddamn I gotta leave my home

Grab hold of your heavy chain

Which people always pulling always trying to restrain

You heard just what I said

They're always pulling you back when you want to get ahead

They pull you back cause they're not with it

You're talking about school

They're talking about quitting

Soon you'll see that time does fly

But you spent most of it out gettin high

Thought about it much, much later

Could've went to school and been much greater

But you chose to lead that fate

Now you're sucking on a bone when it should've been steak

The whole purpose of the story I told

Was mainly to inspire you to reach your goals

Stop walking through life as if you are blind

You should reach for your goal cause I'm reaching for mine

And I'm from

- The Bridge, MC Shan

^^^^^ That's a GOAT verse. Being 41 years old, I totally understand what he's saying at the end of his last verse. He was on a different level than Run DMC and Whodini.

Also, you spelled J-A-P-P-Y J-A-C-K's name wrong. He was a legendary Queens DJ that used to set up his equipment in the parks in the early years (79/80/81). If you do a google search you should be able to find a picture of him.

A great example of the Competition in the game advancing it forward...

The amount of talent that came from NWA, plus the legendary music that came from the beef is unparalleled.

This album began a legendary war. The song Real Niggaz took shots at Ice Cube, the one time member that quit the group. A decent song, but while they were throwing shots, Cube was preparing a fucking Nuke.

NWA - Real Niggaz:

Ice Cubes masterpiece. A album that defined westcoast music, earning Cube respect nationwide. It also produced what many call the greatest diss of all time, No Vaseline.

Ice Cube - No Vaseline:

Dre smartened up like Cube and left NWA to start Deathrow Records with Suge Knight and create quite possibly the most influential album of the past 30 years in music. Dre and his new prodigy Snoop Doggy Dogg took the first shots at his former employer Eazy-E on a diss song that almost came out of nowhere.

Dr. Dre Ft. Snoop Dogg - Dre Day [ HD Uncut Dirty…:

Eazy-E replied to Dre's disses on The Chronic with a reply still considered one of the Goats. Real Motherfucking G's was a vicious verbal assault on Dr. Dre, Snoop, and Deathrow Records.
