What Beef Did the most Damage to HipHop as a Culture???

If the Big/Pac thing didn't happen, we would've never had to endure 50 Cent's shenanigans which broke a part New York's hold on Hip Hop.

maybe im missing the point of this thread cuz when i read most damage i automatically thought no question pac vs big. i dont know why the older heads (people that were grown like myself) are not flooding this thread and explaining the state of hip hop during that time. hip hop almost died after that beef. we had no face no direction the world thought we were crazy for killing our two biggest stars. that shit set us back.

the nas vs jay beef was the best beef ever in hip hop. after the east vs west beef they showed that our biggest stars could battle like men. that we wouldnt kill each other and they made good music doing it. it shouldnt even be a choice

Without question. The image of the culture was forever tarnished because two of the biggest names in the genre were killed in behind this situation.

It's a huge black eye on the culture.

On top of the deaths, you had two black executives threatening each other on records as well as cavorting with gangbangers and drug dealers.

Not to mention this idiotic deification of the two major parties involved.

How is this even a question? It's Pac and Big 100%. You're talking about two of, if not, the most popular rappers in the game being taken out in their prime. It had such a negative impact on the industry. I definitely think their deaths, in particular Pac's, crippled the West coast and the "gangster rap" scene all together. After that, it was all shiny suits with Puffy's bitch ass. And rap started becoming more and more pop oriented and materialistic. Not saying that wasnt there before, but it became less and less balanced. It's like people got scared of that hardcore shit when they found out what these rappers were talking about was a reality.

I see how the consensus falls on the east/west beef all these battles had the majority of heads taking sides so their effect on the game is unquestionable. I included other battles that had a major impact on HipHop from Industry, Artistic and social standpoints, Spin off thread on the flip side coming soon unless one of you youngsters beats me to it lol...

E/W was the worst because it involved Deathrow. Deathrow was an example of gangs infiltrating the record business which was ultimately bad for hip-hop. Sure they made a lot of classic albums but that was due to Dre.

Allegedly, Sam Sneed was sat down and got punched everytime an east coast artist appeared in his video.

we cant say that would be certain.

And New York was already slipping.

Dude was really NYs last hope and they kinda turned on him

To be honest, Pac vs Big really did damage to the culture as whole and to try and really put or express the shit in words... well you don't need many words to describe the impact that it had on Hip-Hop as a whole. Look at how hip-hop was in the 90's compared to what it looks like now in 2014. Also, anyone can spare that "well it was in the 90's it's a different time & era." Not the point I'm trying to make I'm just saying beef in general especially Pac vs Big/Death Row vs Bad Boy open the floodgates to a lot of BS in hip-hop.

Imagine what would have happend if Pac had done all the shit he had planned, the street basketball league wich a rapper representing each team or something like that, the One Nation label with him, Treach, Scarface. Damn.

Not to take anything from Big either cause he was dope.

2nd place might be the 50 vs. NY, i think he could've helped a lot of dudes to get bigger.

Its not a coincidence that NYC rap been struggling the past decade. He wouldn't even reply to their responses with songs or anything, just pull strings at Interscope to fuck up their career lol. That birthed the bullshit where internet fans think a rapper "won" a beef because he got more money or sold more records than the other dude. Smh. He literally sorta ruined the concept of beefs and diss tracks in rap.

Eventually people stopped caring, there was nobody left to diss..........except Jay. And he'd walk up to that ledge every once in a while......look over the edge........and back away from that shit as soon as the "I'm about a dollar..." line popped in his head. Beanie Sigel gave him his last opportunity to go after Jay in a way that actually coulda hurt him.

Lmao u cant put all the blame on 50. Look back at the late 90s to now. NY been havin a civil war within itself for a long time in Hip Hop compared to other coasts. NY killed itself.

Doo doo owns this donkey Kong is the reason y hip hop beef is wack.....once that muuuunkee tried 2 make a career outta hip hop beef the shit was wack......that east vs west was some bs tupac didn't have beef wit ny/the east he had beef wit big & bad boy.....how could Pac start a east vs west war when he was east coast along wit the outlawz....if Pac would've lived 2 finish that 1nation east & west unite LP that east vs west nonsense would've died along time ago

1st off welcome back brother!!!

Back on topic fam I do not personally believe the East West was started by Pac or Biggie it was happening and brewing before their conflict. That said they came to epitomize the Beef and became the public faces of the conflict, but anyone who paid attention knew that the East West battle ultimately was about Corporate versus Independent or to be more exact Old Labels and their sub divisions versus privately owned HipHop labels but again that is a topic for another thread...

Definitely goes to Biggie and Pac, the 50 beefs dont count because that was pure competition.

The hell it was 50 was getting people albums pushed back. The lox or styles could've been in a different bracket if not for that cause time is money was fire. I would've voted for the east vs west but the game recovered after that. We still had jay nas, snoop, dre , x, wu. And got Kanye, 50, beans etc.
