Why?

I don't take it seriously as an occupation. They rarely have any substantial or respected training or qualifications and they are all of a sudden motivational experts? It tends to be some guy with some cool stories and some catchy generic life pointers.

I'd pay for a Psychologist or Counsellor before I pay to see a motivational speaker.

Well most of them take classes and etc. I went through things as a kid and etc, so I think I could do it.

I hear that and I ain't try a kill your motivation (no pun intended), but imo it's ethically dubious if you ask me. Psychologists train for best part of a decade to qualify not to mention becoming experienced. Classes don't even scratch the surface so a lot of time it's selling a dream to vulnerable people. At times it's boardering on blind leading blind, irrespective of experiences.

I think my issue is when it's at the level of those pics and it's a money making scheme. I got no issue with voluntary motivational talks in schools in ghettos for example.

I don't like the ones that are obviously just out to make some money off people with low self esteem but I do like motivational speeches like Ted Talk by people that don't consider motivational speaking their profession

Word

However, some people are good enough at it to profit. It's not like they are those scam pastors or etc.

If imma pay for motivation then imma drop $15 on the 400 degreez album. Juvi was dropping some timeless inspirational quotes on that album

Depends if it seems genuine and what they're actually talking about. Elliot Hulse, Yo!Elliot, is someone I listen to occasionally.

Alright, so what do you guys think of motivational speakers? I like their message and I wouldn't mind trying it out one day. Especially, for high school and colleges. Plus, they make great money too. What are your likes and dislikes about motivational speakers?

P.S. I see so many people give them shit. I don't get it to be honest.

Yo you see all those people? You can almost feel the energy in the room.

Now out of those people how many of them do you think are going to go on to do something significant in the world or even just their own lives that wouldn't have done it otherwise?

I'd rather just see a good concert.

LOL at concert. Also, I could see 20 out the whole room doing something significant.

Their catchphrases are GOAT. One of them told me that I needed a "check up from the neck up." I would have never thought of that.

It is true that they do feed on your need

your need to believe in something, to acquire something that you THINK is missing in your life

so they create a persona and say whats on your mind that you want to hear

all of them say pretty much the same thing but they reword certain phrases and then come up with a gimmick to acquire followers

I mean honestly is there a difference between a politician and a motivational speaker

think about it they both state and say things that they make you feel like believing in them, that they are bigger than life

the only one I really gotten into was ET the Hip Hop Preacher

this may seem cliche, but he really feels like he gets to you, and plus I've personally hit him up and talked to him on the phone and he has a considerable following

that right there shocked me, cause I thought like alot of those motivational speakers that you would have to pay for that seminars or pay to see him

I mean it took a minute to reach him, but the fact that he personally picked up the phone to speak with me, just that one time

showed to me that he was legit, more or so more than the other ones who act like they are down to earth but act like celebrities and wont be bothered with you

but again remember its a business and eventually they want you to buy their books or go to their seminars

is there someting to it, yea, but I say this

Take what you want from them, ACTUALLY PRACTICE the principals that they give out, because there is some truth to them

but honestly there is no need to go to the seminars

alot of it is mentality, practice, and determination to see it through
