Does anyone else feel like the internet in the early 90s was a bit better in some ways than now? At least surfing the web. That shot use to be like having a dark art. Not everyone had it. I remember having to use mamma.com and Altavista search engines and that shit used to find secret stuff that no one knew about, like you could literally find anything. Now it all seems programmed.

Like what kind of secret stuff?

I remember when that R Kelly sex tape came out. It was R Kelly pissing on an underage girl. Supposedly it was all over the internet but I wasn't stupid enough to look for it because its child porn.

Eventually one of my homies bought the tape at a barbershop. The tape was so grainy that you couldn't see anything.

So yeah, the answer to this thread is anything child porn related.

I can't remember I just remember the content being different. Like damn near all content on the net comes from a business now. A lot back then just came from regular joe blow users. I remember being able to find this secret thing called mp3s...and chat rooms used to be hella good. I used to holla at complete female strangers in chat rooms and call then on the phone and smash. Now you can't even get a bitch to msg you back on okcupid.

Altavista was the GOAT old school search engine.

The web in the 90's had more of a sense of community. It was new, people were stretching their legs and claiming a space for themselves through places like Geocities, Angelfire, and Tripod. There was more of a sharing environment back then. Cats would throw up info on those old sites just to be able to help the next man that had the same question they had and not for financial gain either, all that info was free. Nowadays everything is a money grab. 23844234 ads just to view the solution to a problem you may have had and the only reason it was even posted was to generate money.

Yeah the old web didn't look as slick as it does now, but I still miss it the way it used to be.

Bruh, I'm in my 40's. If I wanted to meet a chick, I'd go to Circle K, QT, Walmart, BK, or anywhere in the real world.

Old school playa, no PC needed.

Right, in '97 I had contracted myself out to this startup software company doing music, artwork + CGI animation, and programming for a little game they were trying to release. I used to find all types of programming tips, 3D animation documentation, and all manner of shit, all on free websites with only a single banner ad at the top of the site. Shit, I just remembered the very first free webspace company I used back inna day: The Globe. It was like one part social networking, one part Geocities. Shit was great! Every now and then when I'm looking for info on old shit I'll run across dead links that refer to sites on The Globe, including my own.

I downloaded my first mp3 back in early '98. Plastikman's label, m-nus.com, started releasing a couple of tracks for free as mp3's. I was still using Win95b on this Compaq Prolinea 4/66 66MHz 486DX2 machine. Had to figure out how to play these music files and ran up on Winamp. Had to upgrade my processor to the famous 5x86-133MHz "overdrive" chip to get it to work smoothly. Shit was dope as fuck to me. I hadn't seen shit like that since MOD files on the old Amigas.

I remember being about 19 in Yahoo chat and this 35 year old black chick, fine ass fuck, turned her webcam on and had like 20 of us guys viewing her. She started taking requests and she got nasty lol. Yahoo chat was goat
