Like X with the shiny suit era, 50 Cent was a by-product of Shady/Aftermath.The difference is that 50 was signed to Shady/Aftermath and DMX wasn't a Bad Boy artist.
The "DMX" of this generation will likely be a rapper that is endorsed and co-signed by Wayne and YMCMB. Why? Because it's a major entity within the game right now just like Bad Boy was in the 90's and Shady/Aftermath in the 00's. YMCMB would give that artist exposure and they really don't have an artist like that on their squad right now.
I think 50 was more a by-product of that whole "rappers in love" era when Ja Rule, Nelly, Jay-Z, Fabolous, LL and Diddy were making those sappy ass chick songs like Excuse Me Miss, I'm So Into You, Dilemma, I Need A Girl, Love You Better, What Would I Be Without You, etc....he came in and crushed that shit like X crushed the Shiny Suit Era
I agree with your last point though....if there is a DMX of this generation, he'd have to be associated with one of the big name camps (YMCMB, MMG, or GOOD Music)
I think the closest we have right now is Meek Mill, but he doesn't have the "edge" that X and 50 had.
Basically, what we need is an artist who's a perfect mixture of Chief Keef and Kendrick Lamar....and that's probably not going to happen LOL
I think I might be the only person who doesn't like Meek Mill
Seriously he doesn't impress me at all. All that screaming on tracks gtfoh
