The 5th one brought that series back to life. The 4th one was pretty meh. Also them bringing in older characters like Tyrese and ludacris definitely helped and the rocks character definitely helped the franchise

Not taking away from the 5th. I dont even like the 4th movie but it was the 4th movie's performance that led to the success of the 5th. I love how people are trying to retroactively change thay now. There's a reason Universal wants Justin Lin back for part 9. Dude worked miracles for them from Tokyo Drift to part 6. Made each movie bigger and more profitable than the next and helped that series gain its current identity.

5th changed the formula. It was easy for 4th to do good because all the og cast came back after they all disappeared in Tokyo drift
