I agree with @S2J to a degree. Some people kill themselves to escape fates they see as worse like going to jail, but this doesn't mean that it's not a mental issue. Extreme stress does at times cause mental instability even if temporary. Some people's undiagnosed mental issues lead them to make dumb decisions in that led up to that their final solution in the first place. This doesn't apply to everyone as clearly, but some would argue that mental health is under scrutinized and others would argue that the excuse is over utilized. Whatever the case, it needs to be scrutinized. Even with suicide pacts or people feeling that media is influencing them can't be stable or in a mentally healthy state especially if they already consider themselves outcast or at the end of the line and refuse to see an alternative.
There is also assisted suicide which can be argued to be an actual final solution to a situation that has no other outcomes like a painfully chronic and debilitating disease. I've known someone to argue that even that is a dangerous situation for one to make a decision because the pain may be making them delirious. Still though, who the fuck wants to live like that.
