Most people dont even know who Jay Elect is. Only serious HipHop heads do....With that said, the only way he will be able to sell units is if he puts in hella work like Cole did.

How do you know what most people know?

jay elect is one of those artistic types that i honestly believe is a perfectionist and atm doesn't have a team surronding him that will MAKE him release music. There is a good and bad with that

good in when he puts out heat, it marinates and people fiend for more but bad when you compare guys who started at the same time or even after than him that aredeep in to touring on their first and for some second solo album

I agree but there is no good in that lol

I mean just look at this thread...i thought it would blow up, and now tha shyt dead already.

I think its 1 of 2 things:

1) he aint really into rap, for spiritual reasons (See the pic of him and the king of 'my heart aint in this'-Dave Chapelle)

2) He thinks he's better than what he is and thinks he's above bein forgotten

Like Big said on No Way Out:- Get it right now cuz aitn no guarantee they gon love you next year.

Because J. Cole released three mixtapes and a handful of songs to wait until the album. Jay Electronica strikes me as a guy who doesn't like rapping but started rapping so he could meet celebrities and shit. This man doesn't give off a single vibe that he loves hip hop in any way.

J Cole never had the mystique or cult like following Jay E has too, Jay E doesn't have to put out mixtapes to garner peoples attention imo. Him just dropping a song trends on twitter and people over analyze his lyrics. He has a totally different type of following, where he doesn't have the flood the market to have a demand.

Good drop :tu

I feel Jay E will blow the music game to pieces when he finally drops… I don't think you can take what he has and bottle it as this or that… if you look at below, I don't understand how you could deny it… he's on something else… completely. Even if it's a Deltron 3030 album that flies over most people's heads… who care? That album is going to be incredible if crafted well. I believe he'll drop within the next two years and the likes of The Pledge will only serve again as new tracks that will create buzz… Jay has the critics behind him, it shows in this article… when he drops it will be like the Messiah of rap has landed. I think he's that good.

He can be against the grain.

Agree with Ruff. Jay E is too dope. Units wise i dont think he will achieve what Jay Z will want. I think hes very capable of Gold but hard to get to platinum. But when his album does drop i bet he will be like the rapping Dr. Dre. just perfected.

Aint NOBODY bigger than the GAME!

I love this rap shyt...and w/ the internet by my side (lol), i will always find some shyt to make me completely forget about you!!!!

i.e. when Jay Z retired after Black Album i was bummed...then life went on and i had Kanye...Lupe...etc.

As long as i got Curensy, Freeway, Styles P, Budden, Rick Ross (w/ them sick beats), etc. droppin new music CONSTANTLY...ngga im GOOD.

And Jay Elec is BETTER than all them, but good music is good music.

How can you even begin to say that Kanye was a good replacement for Jay? In my opinion, I almost practically stopped checking for mainstream rap following The Black Album… Kanye lyrically can't add up like the greats on the mic. Musically you're right, but as a replacement for the lyricism on the Black Album, Kanye's a poor replacement and Lupe isn't as entertaining, I think there's independent artists better than Lupe :unno: though.

Thats not the point. The point is i listened to music before him...and i'll listen after him.

I mentioned Jay Z specifically b/c he is, imo, the best to do it

And if HE can retire yet i still have a shyt load of great albums from that time frame: Dropout, Late Reg., Cloud 9 the 3 Day High (Skyzoo and 9th Wonder), Ghostface albums, Common's Be, etc etc etc

And Jay Z had like 9 albums...so i think i'll be good if Jay Elec and his whole 20 song catalogue dont wanna come back out

And i FUK wit him, but what i look like? Lol

I think he's just trying to put together some timeless music. I mean he has some dope tunes that have came out that show his potential. So I think he's trying to be a perfectionist. Cause if he put out an average album nobody will ever talk about him again. He's gotta come correct. Maybe he's waiting till the label can support him 100% instead of getting half efforts because they are technically still promoting Cole.

Either way though, I cant wait for that album. Substance rap at its finest

You got Just Blaze makin yo beats and you cant carry yo ass in the Stu and do work?

Nah, im not buyin that...in music, and creativity in general, usually the LONGER it takes is NOT a good thing

i.e.- D'angelo, The Roots, and Erikah Badu's CLASSIC albums all came form the same studio sessions! I know what im talking about lol

Ive seen the studio sessions Jay E had with that African singer...you cant recreate that type of synergy! Thats why 9/10 you hear GOOD rappers say shyt like 'yea we went into the studio and cranked out like 5 songs'

That start n stop shyt aint a characteristic of 'timeless music'

Maybe they do got shit cooked up already. Who knows? I heard he was in the studio with Young Guru too so that means he's recording.

But i understand what you mean when you say "in music, and creativity in general, usually the LONGER it takes is NOT a good thing" cause it could come across as forced or over analyzed. Hopefully that doesnt happen with this album
