IMO people built something very high. It collapsed, they believed it was god who collapsed it.

History has documented cases of statues or buildings crumbling due to faulty engineering being placed in the "The Gods must be upset with us" category.

Tower of babel has to be one of the better stories of the bible yet stupid in its own way. It trys to explain that all langugaes were the same at the time which is foolish

Maybe the one language was symbols? Or maybe mysticism and science once had one 'language' and were very near to explaining everything and with that knowledge they believed they were god or played god. Then the language was confounded so that mysticism and science now sounded worlds apart?

Symbols were present before the Sumerians.

Oh I see our misunderstanding now, I wasn't using the story in chronological order.

Literal or not?

If it is, why is it that God found it right to destroy that because of their goal? What about us today? We can reach the "heavens" and if we can't why did God destroy it for them? Because we know they sure in hell couldn't have done it.

I think the Tower in that story represents a civilization. And yes, they're attempting to build another "tower" of Babel through America. And like what happened in the Bible... 'god' is going to slap the taste out of their mouths.

god in my notion being mother nature.... aka laws of nature.
