Growing up all I listened to was black soul and R&B music my mother used to listen to and all I listened to for myself was go-go(my DC shit) and so called gangsta rap 99% of the time.

Oh my mother did like some Phil Collins so I heard some of his shit.

My wife is a music buff. I swear if they ever brought back the game show "Name that tune" I would MAKE her ass go on there and win us some money. That's how much different music she knows. She has expanded my music tastes somewhat but she never played any Tom Petty.

I been taking Tom Petty for granted. I always wanted to see him live but tickets are crazy expensive. Of the classic rock musicians Tom Petty was probably the youngest, and definitely looked younger than he really was. I figured he would always be around so every year I kept saying I would see him next year.

He made heartfelt, honest, feel-good music.
