We are in the middle of a recession, people are trying to support their families.

That $10 you spent on a C.D. could go in your gas-tank or pay for your dinner tonight, what choice would you make??

Sales dont mean shit, in HipHop it simly means you crossed-over and Meagan from Montana likes you.

how come other disposable forms of entertainment arent tanking ... like dvd sales etc ... net flix and red box aint hurtin one bit ... are they??

Let me state that those 100,000 were in the United States. I also agree that there are too many artist being put out, mfs like DTP, Oschino, Mack Mane, etc shouldn't even be getting record deals. These labels need to do a better job A&Ring and develop the talented artist they do have, they treat these artist like hookers, put them on the street and hope they turn a profit.

That's the problem, labels don't try and develop artist anymore. they don't try to help the artist have longevity.

People only PAY for music they feel they can support and want to hear more of, basically,is what the industry is boiling down to. If you can't catch an ear ,you won't sell. It doesnt matter who is buying records! If your Joe Smoe who can rhyme a little, that doesnt mean people will like your shit! The question i always ask is " Why the FUCK do yall care how many records they sold unless yall comparing SALES? And......The white boy got'em!!

the article was in allhiphop a couple yrs ago that 300k was the new platinum and the benchmark for a successful album. Guys like Em and Jay and Kanye and Wayne sell equivalent of quintuple quintaple platinum.

One thing I liked about the article was the mention of the One on One between Producer and Artist. Those days are gone !! With so little profitable emcee's and so many producers, they do fight to jump on the next huge artist. Vying for a hit trying to get the best music will fuck you over in the process because sometimes all those cooks don't mesh. Cd's song all over the place which makes it sound wack.

In my city the movie stores like Blockbuster & Hollywood video are closing down.
Blockbusters stock just got de-listed off the New York stock exchange, people switched to Netflix.

It takes 10 mins or less to illegally download an album to your Ipod, so Im guesing that the fast and easy availability
of stealing your music makes it alot more tempting than downloading a low-quality pirated movie that you have to burn to DVD

Just a guess.
