My generation stays getting hated on.

But im against this whole trend of weighing 120 pounds and wearing snap backs.

But we got some what of a style. 90s kid looked bummy as fuck lol.

Yeah fuck that frail shit....its a lot fucked up with the new school, nigguhs is very feminine, but the more i hear cats criticize it, i look back on the 90s and I'm like, dog, we had a lot of whack shit back then to, especially looking back...

yeah man a lot of guys my age look fucking gay straight up, its pathetic. I mean there's nothing wrong with being fresh and keeping your self clean and shit but some of these guys taking it to far.

Times are different though, i'm sure 70's generation was hating the 80's generation and 80's was hating on the 90's. Its part of life i guess.

Thats my whole thing. Im tired of cats my age hating on younger dudes and the scene now, romanticizing the past and shit. we had whack shit in the 90s, and fuck nicki paying homage to lil kim, too. nigguhs hated that bad boy shit before big died. wu and bcc was bucking at that movement and everybody wasnt loving them nigguhs untill big fell.

I'm not over 30 however i'd say the more freedom you can have as an artist. I think the whole "keep it real" mentality got misinterpreted around the 90s and people assumed that keeping it real meant keeping it ghetto or hood, which it didnt.

I think youre allowed to be more honest and vulnerable as an artist too, which i guess is why we've seen so many white rappers and rappers from the suburbs emerge in the past 10 years or so, for better or worse. However alot of people dont play by these rules right now and still wanna paint a fake lifestyle, but i still think they have more freedom when it comes to that than before.

Good point, being from Philly and moving to VA in my teens, it bugged me out to c cats TRY and thug out good neighborhoods and portray their areas worse than they really were. I agree with u about vulbnerability also, everybody cant be a knock out artist, everybody cant be 'getting it' with crack money...so I guess NOBODIES moms and pops was shit right? thats how 90s cats wanted to frame their lives, and it was wack then and wacker now...

that'd be all well and good, but the thing is these young cats is getting all aggy with the old heads.

that damn "So Sweet" song, any real common fan knows that shit wasn't initially about drake.

Com been working on that same track since Can I Borrow A Dollar.

The fans and the media made that song about drake.

Nikki aint got no reason to pay homage to kim, cause kim was manufactured her damnself.

let them have they fun.... that's fine. but stop getting angry when we point and say "you look gay as fuck right now"

I know we had some questionable fashion sense.

cross colour wasnt easy on the eyes.... at all...

having 5 laces going thru your shoes was wack. the fuck a dude need to learn how to weave for?

i aint gon front like i aint have a midriff football jersey back in the 80's... now that i look back on the shit, it looked gay as fuck...

same with rat tails.... the fuck were we thinking having one long ass braid outta baby hair?
I didnt know anything about the so sweet song and the politics around it....I never had a mid riff football jersey, tho, doggzz hahaha...but yeah, alot of this half homo shit cats is on is questionable. Like, if any young cats can answer this for me, how do yall just ignore that weezy slobbed birdman down on national TV???? seriously, how do u guys let that go?? no hate..im just saying...

I cant front, looking back, that ghetto shit our era glamorized was WHACK!!!! It gave alot of dudes low expectations of the future. Now when I c cats I grew up with thats stuck in that mode of thought I look down on them cats I cant front. These young cats is about ownership, I give them that...also, being a slim dude my whole life, I got no problem wearing clothes that fit. The more I give it a chance, I actually find myself digging this new era, times change, hip hop isnt a museum exhibit. Any thoughts?

I can't blame that on music because there was a variety to choose from. There was balance in the music. If NWA or

Snoop wasn't your type of music, you could listen to Brand Nubian or PRT. It was your choice. Nowadays we're force fed most of the music & I think it's bs. I'm not knocking anyone for their style or the type of music they listen to because there's something for everyone, but it's not really a choice of what you can listen to as far as the mainstream is concerned. I remember when I could watch a rap show & I could get, BCC, LL, Brand Nubian, MC Lyte, NWA/Ice Cube, Wu-Tang, Big L, MC Shy D & 2 Live Crew all in one show. These artist for the most part all offered a different perspective & it was being shown. You didn't have to be a follower of the "underground" to know of good rappers that didn't sell big numbers. Now, you don't have the same access to the different types of rappers or at least they don't seem as accessible. I don't expect a cat under 25 to listen to a lot of the stuff that I listen to, but I do think the younger generation is being cheated out of really being able to appreciate a variety in hip-hop. All the rappers nowadays seem too hard or too damn feminine. It's either one extreme or the other & the in between isn't getting any shine. This is just my opinion though.

I do credit for a lot of the young artists being about their business. Record execs have fucked the artists & they still continue to fuck them, but the artists are more focused on the business side & I definitely applaud that.

As far as the clothes, I've never been that dude to wear "fitting" clothes unless I'm rocking a suit...to each is own though.

why does what two other grown ass men do with each other bother u so much?? i mean if u ever been to church, u see all of the older people kiss each other on the lips in the SAME EXACT fashion.... its nothing new.. its showing love.. in their way... why let that take away from the music?? cuz lil wayne done made plenty of hits since that incident.. and birdman is always getting his money.. so i dont see the big deal.

i agree with the thread starter. We need to stop pretending the 90's wasn't mostly bullshit images. We were just too young to realize it at the time. Just like in 10 years the young cats now gonna look back and same a lot of this shit was some bullshit but they still enjoyed the music.

cant move forward b/c folks want to complain and hate on the new shit. the new shit that you don't like single that out and critique that but don't generalize and just say the whole generation is lost and garbage.

As for the clothes man fashion goes in cycles. Shit we used to wear our clothes on backwards after kriss kross came out.

the one big difference between then and now is WHITE ppl. White ppl now have some influence on the culture. I mean how these folks dress is basically how white folks have always dressed. Tight ass fitted clothes high water jeans and shit. We used to laugh at white boys dressed like that when i was a kid and we went down town. Now you cna't tell the difference beween skate board fashion and hip hop.

and society as whole has changed. We see more homo shit in hip hop b/c this generation grew up with more homo shit in there faces and are more accepting. we didn't have will and grace on tv. You hear less gangsta rap b/c black ppl overall in this country are more well off than the early 90's. There aren't anymore major crack strips in the inner city. That's why the music has changed. It's b/c society has changed.

By far the fashion trends in hip hop. Nut huggers??? C'mon son... But I do think older heads put some acts from our past on a pedestal. Co-sign whoever mentioned Lil Kim being manufactured as hell....bish has never penned a rhyme in her life and dudes making her out to be Havoc with a coochie, I cant fuck with Nicki musically...but aside from like 3 songs from Kim (which all had mad features) I cant fuck with her shit either.

I like the business savvy of those that are in the game now ...

yea quality has dropped off, but these dudes aren't gettin raped like the niggas 15 years ago ....

Hell yeah, we laughed like crazy at Vans and airwalks back then. Now black kids wear them all the time.

That's true, I had to come to terms with that too. I'm not 30 yet, but I grew up in the 90's and consider myself a part of the previous generation. I looked at this generation as lost and corny until I realized that that's what the previous generation said about my generation.

I can't hate on the current generation's tight clothes and how they dress, but it does seem like this current generation is extra feminine. Hell, I can't hate tho. At least they're not a bunch of wannabe gangstas like when I came up in the 90's

And as fashion goes, they wore tight clothes in the 80's, baggy clothes in the 90's, now it's back to tight clothes again. They just wore that tight shit differently tho, was'nt no sagging.

[nah kanggoodie, i cant agree with that shit. thats that new shit i dont agree with what youre doing, which is letting everything slide. and as far as using the european based model of the modern day black church as an example that mos def wont work. lil wayne kissed baby, i could give a fuck if them nigguhs is fucking right now as we speak, i just dont see how cats let that shit slide like it aint nothing or it dont matter. i like some elton john songs, but elton doesnt run around like hes a gang banger and calls his ceo daddy and kisses him on the lips on national tv..nah, get the fuck outta here, if u fruit, just say u fruit, atleast lil b is about to admit his shit..
