i think the problem here is, like somebody said, they dont know the difference between hustling and being a kingpin. in fact, MOST niggas who sell drugs are nickle and diming. most of them are niggas making the usual paper (500-1000 a week) and striving to get better. if u came from the hood ud know that. its a bunch of small time niggas fighting for the opportunity to be big time. in the book, jay z never claims he was some kind of kingpin, when he speaks about maryland or trenton, he never said he 'took the town over'

smh niggas gonna ride jay jock no matter what wild shit come out his mouth

the shit is organized. nigga cant just come out of nowhere and hustle in someone else hood without taking it over

and them small time niggas work for some 1 else.all the shit is connected 2 whoever control the area

I've been coming to this forum for a minute... I'm not the type of person to post often but I have to post on this... it seems a lot of people here talk about hustlin at length and the truth is, is that it's different everywhere... Some of the same rules apply but not ALL.

I was watching something the other day... I think it was gangland and it was an episode about Crips in Alaska and at one point I had to rewind cause I thought I heard it wrong but I didn't. In Alaska there isn't a death penalty for snitching, I was like whaaat... There were guys, I don't know if they were active or former gang members but they confirmed it saying that you could snitch on somebody and be hanging with them on the corner the next day or running in the same circles without consequence. To me, that shit don't make no damn sense because I wasn't raised that way, if someone is a snitch they ain't allowed on the block and they got people looking for them, and if you can't do the time, you shouldn't be committing crimes. That's the way it was taught to me.

Another thing is... if you drop Jay-Z from this discussion and focus on the fact that some people here are talking about hustlin in the 80s the picture might become a lot clearer... they are talking about a period in time where crack was booming, a lot of people were making money and if you weren't hustlin before you were then. There was enough money to go around. If you had a connect and found a little spot to pump it's possible to set up shop and not be fucked with by anyone, especially if your competition isn't the type to resort to violence at the drop of a dime. I think that's been proven and stated over and over again by the old timers who operated in that era. Also, NOT every person who sells drugs is extremely violent. I don't know where the hell that stigma or whatever you wanna call it came from... then again, I guess I could see that if the closest a person ever came to drugs and the aspect of dealing was through a television series, I guess I could understand that.

But the truth is, a lot of these guys are NOT orgainzed. That's why I quoted the statement above... and NO, a lot of these guys are independent... and a lot of these guys can go to another area setup shop and work something out with the other dealers in the area... and also, if you get familiar with an area you have a chance to size up the competition. A LOT of these guys are not about going to jail over some violence because that's what usually brings the cops... don't get me wrong, the drugs do too but dropping bodies is definitely a no no cause the cops HAVE to respond to that... you can't have dudes shootin like its the wild wild west. If another dude moves in and you still making your money then... shit let him do his thing. Then it's about who has the better product and more often than not, if your stuff is quality, your customer gone still come to you cause there is just a certain comfort that comes with dealing with someone you've always dealt with for years, than hooking up with someone new. That's why, usually, people deal drugs with people they grew up with or there connect could be someone they grew up with... there's a certain comfort level in that. You could get burned either way but dealing with someone you know is better 9 times out of 10. How many times have we heard rappers say 'I DON'T KNOW YOU'...

Also, one last thing, if you dealing you can look to the past and ask yourself what happened to guys like a Nicky Barnes, Frank Lucas, Rayful, Preme, Fat Cat, etc... all them dudes ultimately went to prison for a long stretch or got life... Why? Because of the governments efforts to bring down their organizations... it pays to organize but it also pays to pump dolo or with a couple guys you came up with, make a few extra g's a month, work a 9-5, get your money up and move onto the next phase of life towards whatever you're trying to do... that could be a towing service, flippin houses, whatever...

Oh, and NOT every area has someone who controls it, if you believe that... that's like a myth because I know, that would be like too much tv... that's like saying all gangs are organized, they're not, A LOT of them are loosely organized and there isn't one guy sitting at the top barkin all the orders... if that were the case there would only be one Crip/Blood set, etc... that's all for now
