People said he sold his soul when It Was Written came out.

They said it was too commercial sounding.

A lot of people stopped listening to Nas after Illmatic. It was a perfect underground album and then he went pop.

Imagine if Kendrick Lamar did an album with a bunch of DJ Mustard beats right after dropping GKMC, that was what it was like in 96 with Trackmasters executive producing the album.

Funny cuz aint shit pop about that album.

For 1996 standards it was.

Track masters produced Watch dem niggas, shootouts, the message, affirmative action, those are pop?

I can kinda see why they would say street dreams and if I ruled the world are pop, but 2 songs out of 15 doesn't make it a pop album.

For 1996 standards they sounded commercial, people weren't ready to hear a Nas album with that sound, they wanted a more underground sound.

I can't believe some idiot nosigned you. I bet that moron wasn't alive in 1996 or too young to remember.

I hate when you're in a thread discussing something that you remember because you lived through it and people who are too young to remember start nosigning and flagging you.

They should keep track of everybody's birthday and if you're too young to remember something then you shouldn't be able to nosign it.

I always liked this single. Despite some commercial appeal, Nas spits fire. The rest of the album is even greater. One of his best in entire catalogue.
